There are other benefits to the ability besides just taunt. Even if the AI uses it all right away on defense, everyone has Defense Up and Tenacity Up for two turns. "Kyno;c-2238369" wrote:

It would be cool if they could start to account for that...
From my understanding they assign each ability a priority, which basically puts them in order of use when available. If basic was higher than any other skill it would always be used and you would never get to that skill, as basic is always available.
I'm not saying they could not put in a more complex AI system, but there is no way to account for that, without making the whole system smarter, and more complicated.
