It seems to be all about Speed

I've reached high enough rank in my Squad Arena that all I'm seeing now is JK Revan squads - and what's more the same JK Revan squad over and over. And to be honest, I'm the same. I'm using the same Revan squad as everyone else. So all that seems to determine the winner of any match now is who has the better mods. That's it.
I just had a mirror match game - everything was identical between the two squads other than our mods. The match started and my opponent managed to kill one of my characters before I even had a turn. How boring is that? The game is no longer about squad construction or "rock paper scissors" as some on this forum claim, it's about who has been lucky enough to find the better mods. We might as well just compare mods at the start of each match and declare the winner based on that. The result will be the same.

I'm now actively trying to get knocked down in the Arena by about 50 places or so. The rewards will not be as good but there was still some variety in squads there so at least the game will be more interesting to play. Because at the moment, it's just about mods and speed and that is just dull.

I really hope something can be done to salvage this situation.

  • I think there are genuinely a fair amount of meta teams: Traya triumverate / CLS triumverate / Rey on offense with 3po and of course Revan. (sisters can beat Revan too)

I think that the question is one of availability, to get CLS you need to complete R2 and CLS AND you need to have got chewbacca on the 1/2nd time which required gear 11-12. As the first event that required such high gear levels, I think it caught a lot of people back.

Traya is obviously quite hard to get...

Rey same as CLS with 3po.

The result is, Revan was relatively easy to get, and as a Revan player I will shamelessly attack any Rey or Luke that crops up in top 50. So the issue isn't that they arn't good enough, it's just that they are going to get targetted disproportionately.

But the meta is actually pretty healthy, and i'm sure that Rey/CLS/Sisters can beat me on offense.
  • No it does not.

Slower Revans can win vs faster ones.
I run Traya for the climb and I don't rly care about speed on my Traya team (best speed set on my Revan), the fastest one in that team is Sion at a lousy 256 speed (modded for CD+CC) and I easily beat a 322 speed Revan.
    1) good defense and tenacity mods on Traya with a sliced crit avoidance arrow
    2) Thrawn speed = Sion speed -1
    3) DN basic --> Sion AoE --> Thrawn TM swap to DN --> DN using force drain --> stall game --> annihilate Revan + isolate GMY --> win

Whether all the teams in arena are the same is a completely different issue than whether it’s “all about speed/mods.”

But it's all about mods precisely BECAUSE everyone is running the same team.
If we had the options of multiple squads all being equally viable, it would NOT be all about mods.

What I'm saying is that the second sentence above is preferable. It's much more interesting to play and that makes for a better game.

If the Devs could give us balanced squads instead of power-creeping every few weeks, mods would still matter but they'd matter less and we'd have a better game to play.

You are wrong. Each shard has 20000 players doing 5 arena squads per day. In all cases survival of the fittest will give us a homogenous top 50

Except, again, that’s not true. If slower Revan can beat faster Revan, then it is, in fact, NOT all about mods, unlike other metas in which it was.

I have never seen a mirror match being won by the slower team. Ever. No matter the squad. And definitely not Revan.

I am very rarely the fastest on my shard and I win very effectively.

Also, there is only 1 "fastest" on each shard, and no one just sits at 1 all the time, so logically speaking you are 100% wrong.

My shard has 150++ revans while mine is 140, climb to first daily.

The top of arena is always going to be dominated by the guys who have the new hot team and insanely fast mods.

As some have pointed out, you can win with a slower team, but it's obviously easier if you're, like...not slower.

    Ha, nailed it.
  • The only thing that allows my z Finn z Scab Rey Poe Pilot Trooper team to stay in the 300-400 range is Poe's ridiculous speed. He goes first, taunts and removes the other team's turn meter, and that hopefully gives me enough exposes to start the turn meter expoae train.

If I don't get that Poe speed move, I die.
