Squad Suggestions

I am starting over from 10 years ago since EA cannot find my account from Facebook, Google, etc.

Since I probably stopped playing because farming resources became so difficult after foolishly spending them, I would like to not make the same mistake again.

  1. What squads do I need? For example light, dark, fleet, Jedi etc.
  2. What is the top (10?) for each of those squads? So I can start leveling up now as well as learning strategy
  3. What else do I need to know in leveling up? Focus on level, gear, ability, etc. Which is a priority?

I can probably Google or search the forums for all this separately (e.g., best Jedi squad), but since I am such a low level I can probably ride out a few squads till end game in about another year or two lol

If any additional information makes it easier for guidance, please let me know.

Thanks for any help!

  • Hey man, welcome back. I've restarted my account to little over a month ago, not cos I lost it but cos I wanted to restart. Please add me in game, my ally code is 868-174-353

Message me in game when you have time to talk, we can discuss your progression plan and what path you want to take.

Maybe not a bad thing.  A very old account would be like bringing out a 1930s Alfa Romeo F1 car and telling Max & Lando "Let's go!"

Yeah.......it's not like that any more.  Gone are the days of a CLS/R2/GK team vs a Palp/Tarkin/Vader darkside team.  There are more factions and teams than peaches in a peach tree.

A lot factions don't have 10 viable choices now. More and more, we're giving a team with little room for being creative.  Your best bet and best friend is swgoh.gg.  It has 'counters' and the teams/factions that ....counter.

    Animal827 wrote:

Find something good and focus on it.  The bigger you aim, the better it'll be....but the longer it'll take.

    Animal827 wrote:

Levelling is free now, no more credits.  Gear you can get around with, by adding LSTs if you want.  Abilities, well they're dirt cheap until you get to zetas.  Those old bottle necks that you encountered are now wide enough to get a Star Destroyer though. You max everything until you get to mid relics, then decide whether you need to go further.  However, if you chose the team, you probably do want to go further.  The priority.......what makes you a super-model to the airfix-models, is your modding.  Take modding very, very seriously.

Yeah, that's so Old Skool thinking.  You have your JMK jedi squad.  You have your JMMW jedi squad.  You have your JML jedi squad.  You have your Stella Shandy jedi squad.  Queen Panamadarabarala has a jedi squad.  Qui-gon/Annakin have a GAC jedi squad.  "Let's go baby yoda" Beq has a TW jedi sqaud.....you go to toilet and out pops a jedi squad.....they're everywhere!

You know in the Big Bang theory when they added Lizard, Spock and whatnot to Paper, Scissors, Stone?  You're coming back expecting that we're still playing Paper, Scissors, Stone.  However, we're now playing Paper, Scissors, Rock, Spock, Datacrons, Mods, Relics, Omicrons, LSTs.

Welcome to the latter half of the 2020s my friend.

  • He needs guidance, not random yapping and confusion. Most likely does not know the new characters at all.

I know, right!  The whole html error is basically the death of the reply and you need to start again....This forum format has...issues.

Yes, that is a lot to be working on.  Projects are so big now, you're best working on one thing at a time.  That said, if you're collecting shards from various places.....I guess you can, if you have the currency.  As for levelling up and spending resources, definitely one project at a time.

Phoenix, Night Sisters, Geos, Imp Troopers, Palpatine, bounty hunters......this is what we'd have focused on in 2018.  Are these squads useful now?  Yes, they are, but not anywhere near what they were.  Phoenix and Geos are still extremely powerful at early levels.  Geos tail off quick.  Phoenix have recently received a passive nerf of sorts.

Re your phoenix:  Sabine is much better than Ezra.  However, Ezra is needed later on for 2 (I think) unlocks.  One of the main uses (for established accounts) is to beat Reva lead Inquisitors in 5v5 GAC.  However, they recently got a new inquisitor that turns off this counter.  As a TM train team it still has uses, but not worth the investment, other than to unlock stuff.

Re your Imp Troopers: That's the team, yup.  I've never really used Gideon in mine, he's needed elsewhere.  Most of them are needed for unlocks.  This is another TM team that also hasn't aged well.  However, it's not bad for cleaning up some GLs.

Re your Imp team:  Hmmm, they're all needed for unlocks.  That team itself is another TM train team.  However, recently it got a huge buff in the way of the new half-mask Vader.  At mid-early late game it's also pretty viable with StarKiller.  I think there's a lot of work there though to get it viable.  You do need everything on it though for unlocks or ships.

Re your Geo team:  Geos are a real early game nightmare team.  I'm sure in GAC early on, you can cause nightmares vs early game players with Geos and Phoenix.  The big issue being is that early GAC won't necessarily be against early game players.  There are benefits though.  Geos are needed to get Wat Tambor.  An extremely useful character, and he's also needed to unlock JMK.  However, this is on the medium difficulty TB.  I wonder how long you'd actually spend on that TB now......they can be used on the newest TB, but that's a bit of a luxury.  They also have quite a potent ship combo.  Again though, it's aged and borderline useful.  In TW you will see walls of them in mid-early late game with their omicron.  Hmmmm it's hard to recommend them being a priority.  However, if you do make them a priority, the earlier the better.  It's a dead end track though.

Poncho bros:  Massively useful.  They have their own event which gives great rewards.  Their team under Queenie is meta and aging very well.

Jedi:  I guess you'll need all of those at some point.  There is a lot of movement in this faction at the moment.  JML has aged terribly.  For me, he's the most useless of GLs.  It's become quite comical that his whole team are lifters and he's still very limited.  However, he's recently lost JKR and Bass Shandy to the Old Republic team.  This new Old Republic Jedi team with the Shandys is very very good.  JML though is about to get another lifter....a tailored lifter.  This should re-invent him.  However, the new JML lifter and the Old Republic leader Stella Shandy are both very new Conquest units.  It will probably take you 2 years from now at the earliest to unlock them.  Unless you can purchase them for money in the future.

Bounty Hunters:  A poorly aged faction.  I believe all the ones you mentioned are needed for unlocks though.  Yes, you'll get some uses out of it.  However, it's not a great PvE team and in PvP it's quite limited now.

OG Nightsisters:  Again, an old, old faction.  That is the team you'd use for the OG faction though.  It's needed for some events.  That line up won't ever get you the highest win on the Assault Battle though.  You'll definitely get uses out of it, you'll need some of them for some unlocks.  However, with nearly everything so far, you'll find fairly redundant in the late game.

Smugglers:  Useless faction.  Avoid it.  You need Dash for....StarKiller? unlock.....I think.  He can lead any Scoundrel team, doesn't need to be smugglers.  You'll need the vets for Rey.  The 2 original GLs have aged incredibly well.  Qira's best tag now is being a Merc, but that's a luxury.  There is no real need to invest in her at all.  There's a RoTE battle I guess...  Young Lando, has a useless ship.  Yup, bin this idea.  Especially as you have far too  much going on anyway.

Sith:  Traya, Sion and Nihilus have excellent synergy.  They're unlike any other team in the game.  With Savage and his excellent omicron in GAC, this is a really good team.  At the very very end game, like Kyber 1, it's started to disappear.  However, that's a gaming stage you're likely never to reach unless you start throwing money at your account.  Savage (in GAC) and Traya are necessary though if you want this to be a worthwhile team.  It really does punch way above its weight though.

Legacy Rebel Squad:  That squad as it is, is totally useless.  However, you need all of them for unlocks and a very distinct unlock path. Also, they've just had a huge buff with the release of Stormtrooper Luke as a leader.  As a the team line up you wrote though....totally useless.

Episode Currency:  Is going to be vital for buying LSTs.  This is of course a new way of playing the game and I have zero experience with it.  So, what can I advise you?  I suggest though, that with the big ones coming down in price, use these and totally cheaper ones.  As you're limited on how many you can buy, think about it carefully.  These LSTs though, will be very important.  I'm unsure how much currency you will earn and whether buying all of the 3500 LSTs per week is sustainable.  I very much doubt it is.  However, my thoughts (without any practical experience) is just buy these LSTs and ignore everything else.

Omicrons:  Yup, these are big.  I personally only ever use them for GAC.  I get as many as I possibly can per week.  The mats are a priority.  However, for a newer account, maybe less so?  The end of the day though, they'll never be a bad investment.  So, yup get as many as you can.

Kyrotechs:   These have been a massive bottleneck over the last few years.  It's a total pain farming them.  You also need them for Jawa scavenge for a relic level now.  That said, the LSTs have massively reduced this bottle neck.  You'll need masses of them, but getting LSTs is the better route.

Relic materials (Carbonite/Bronzium):  Again, the LSTs will negate a lot of this  (these LSTs are worth their weight in gold).   There's no materials you can obtain that make getting this stuff cheaper.  However, maybe with the LSTs and jawa scavenger and blue/green/white gear.....you won't have too much of a problem with either of these.  That's my hunch.

Datacrons:  I wouldn't make datacrons a priority.  They're temporary and you have plenty of other things to focus on.  How we farm datacrons is in Conquest.  If you want to spend crystals to farm datacrons in Conquest...so be it.  Conquest gives you a lot of good stuff, especially when you move onto hard mode.  As of now though, I'd totally ignore datacrons.

Crystal currency:  I honestly don't know what to advise here.  CG is teaching us to spend crystals on the new Era stuff.  For a new account should you be doing that though?  I don't want to advise either way.  Refreshes though are still vitally important.  I don't know if you should be refreshing your cantina at 300 crystals per day though.  The 50s.....probably you should.  You didn't mention 'mod' refreshes. Modding is massively important.  Masterseedy has done a couple of threads on modding on this forum. It's very much worth your time to have a read.  Please, don't ignore and take modding very seriously.   I think crystal expenditure in 2026 is a specialist subject and needs a thread of its own.  Obtaining crystals though...................the 2 main ways are through GAC and your Ship Arena.  These become incredibly important.  Get a potent ship as soon as you can and........don't annoy anyone in at the top of your ship shard!  If you can get on 'friendly' terms with them, that's a big step forward.

Credit currency:  So, I'm going to suggest something a bit left-field here. (Again have a look at MasterSeedy's modding posts).  Levelling characters and promoting them has become massively cheaper.  I wonder how much of a drain this will be on your credit resources now?  Also, you're looking to farm, far, far too many characters.  If you limit what you're farming at a time; spending credits on characters won't be much at all.  What does cost a lot of credits though, is buying mods from the mod shop and levelling them up.  This costs a huge amount of credits actually.  I'm late game and I am always credit poor.  If I have a credit....modding takes it.  At level 42 modding isn't even an option.  However, it will be soon and then it becomes a massive priority.  Modding will shape the player you will become.  A carefree attitude to modding early on, will take just as much time to rectify once you realise how important it is.  This maybe my biggest piece of advise to you.  Take modding seriously and invest in it heavily.

Mod Store:  Ahhhhh OK, so you've already thought about it (I should have read further down).  Now, although the initial cost of blues and purples are much cheaper than golds, there is a catch.  To see how useful a mod will be, will cost you more resources the weaker the colour.  Essentially, you'll take blues and purples to level 6 & 3 to see if you roll a speed secondary.  If it already has a speed secondary, you 'usually' take them to 12.  (Taking them to 15 is massively expensive).  However, with blues especially you're still missing a lot of info, where golds it's quite cut and dry how useful they'll be.  I feel golds and purples are generally better investments than purples and blues.  The exception being that new currency....Episode shipment currency.  Blues at 75...are dirt cheap!  I'd even suggest buying blues with a great primary and no speed secondary and see if can you roll it (speed).  Crit Damage triangle primaries for example are little gold nuggets!

Sets:  Speed sets yup are the most sort after.  Again and again this little mouse gives a sigh as that new uber-meta character that comes out needs a blinking speed set!  Potency though.............less so.  The other '4 sets' (offence and Crit Dmg) tend to be needed and health sets are the most common 2-set mods.

Cantina currency:  Hmmm, sounds like you're spreading yourself a bit thin there.  I'm unsure how to advise you.  Your focus must be smaller, but farming shards is a bit different.  This takes a long time, so you can farm as much as is sustainable.......I have no idea what is sustainable.  300 crystals a day to farm Tano, 5s and Chopper seems....not right though.  I mean.....what if you start spending crystals to farm these guys then buy an LST?  That's an incredible waste.  I think again, there's a deep dive on this topic.  What you should farm and when, and what you should LST.  I have zero practical experience with this way of gaming.

Cantina character priority:  I'm unsure of your reasoning here.  I don't believe the GR fleet should be a priority.  I don't believe that Tano or 5s ships are that good either.  My starting line up is the Bad Batch ship, Annikin and the B-wing.  I don't think I even use 5s.  I do seem to remember needing Tano's ship for something I had to do all the time though....I guess whatever that was I can sim now.  I think you should re-evaluate all 3 of those priorities.  And maybe which ever team you decide to go for first, probably should be LSTed first then farmed.  Any shard farming you do now, will be wasted if you buy an LST.  Again, you need better and deeper advice here.

Store policies:  Yeah generally your store policies make sense.  You can't go too wrong with using store currencies to buy shards.  Poggle, yup should be a good return.  Cassian's ship is very handy, you'll get use out of that.

Guild currency:  Again, I'm not sure what to advise.  What I'm seeing from giving you advice is you need to evaluate what you can/will get with LSTs.  Absolutely pointless farming until you know if/when you will LST a character.  It looks like working this out (I'm sure somebody has done a video on it) needs to be done first.

Guild currency unlocks:  I am pretty sure Logray shouldn't be a priority.  He's not needed for any unlocks, the team is not good and if you do decide to run an Ewok team is he actually even in it?  Yes, in the old days he was useful for the 3PO unlock.  Now with the little pink ewok girl...........I doubt he does much.  I unlocked 3PO without him (pre-pink girl) and have never felt the need for him.  You need Chirpa, Pink Girl & Wicket for unlocks and these are the core of the Ewok team.  The tanks a must and then I guess the 5th is either Logray or the healer/reviver.  Definitely not a priority, and probably not needed at all.  Dengar, again isn't a Chewbacca priority unlock.  There are more modern BH that should make this journey a cake-walk.  That said, you need Dengar to unlock Executor and you need him and his ship for Executor.  He's also a mercenary, which opens Baylan opportunities  (like Qira before).  On a BH team though, practically useless.  Absolutely not a priority unless you're going for Executor.  Starck, needed for Exec?  Or SEE....one of the two.  Great on that Imp Trooper team.  The fact you understand modding, will make that team better.  By far the best of the 3 for me.  1. Stark.  2. Dengar.   Logray, trash that idea.

Guild event shipments:  Han, Traya, GK all massive all needed.  You should get all 3 of these.  I didn't understand 'blue roomba', but I think I now get it now.  I buy them (if they're what I think they are) for 150 GET 1s in the Guild Activity store.  I never run low.  Sounds like you've done your homework on this though.  So, I'm not going to argue.   Ahhhh just read down a little further.....yup that's how I buy them.

I'm not going to argue with your Prestige, Character and Shard shop policies.  Sounds like you've already done your homework.

Galaxy currency:  Zeb isn't needed for the Phoenix.  You also didn't mention him in your phoenix squad.  I don't understand why he is a priority?  I think you can totally ignore him.  Cad and Biggs are needed for unlocks.  They both have ships.  They both have 'some' uses in teams.  Poggle, well if you decide you need Geos early....OK.

Conclusion:  Some of the teams you're prioritising are very dated.  Phoenix, Night Sisters, Palpatine.........it's all 2018.  You're also looking at teams that are great early and tail off quickly.  Geos and Phoenix.  You're also spreading your resources too thinly.

Now the big thing though (and I don't know the answer) is what should you be shard farming and what should you be spending LSTs on.  This I think, you need to find the answer first.

Look for teams that will be useful for a long and help you unlock bigger stuff and have a tighter focus.

  • I'll say this, even if you wanted to pay me to remove Zeb from Phoenix team I would refuse it. learn how to properly mod Zeb.
