If you're asking whether it's an exploit because you're afraid you'll be punished for using it, typically they haven't done it for things like this. They punish for things like getting illegal crystals.
For raids, they will work very quickly to nerf mechanics if it's something they really don't want (including coming in on the weekend to prevent two Jawas from nearly soloing p2 of tank raid under a g4 Nute lead), but they've never taken away raid rewards AFAIK for taking advantage of unforeseen but technically WAI interactions. In some cases they have even outright said it's fine to use the cheese until the decision is made.
I can't speak for CG, but my guess is you're probably safe if your guild uses this trick until they decide what they want to do about it.
