Game crashing

Flagging my own gameplay issues, Sims 1 launches but after roughly 1 sim day or 5 mins of gameplay, on my laptop which is new and only has these legacy releases installed lags and then crashes forcing me to open task manager and end task.

wondering if anyone else has just this issue? Hopefully this will be addressed in another patch.

Sims 2 works just fine, had 1 crash after making a first family but they got saved in the bin but that’s it.

  • ASweetLullaby  The Sims crashes in your dxdiag mostly point to a fundamental component of Windows, one that is probably not corrupt given that your computer works at all.  Still, please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

Please also increase the size of your computer's page file, which is where the processor stores data that would be in RAM but doesn't fit.  Your page file is almost all used.  Here's how to increase it (option three):

Set the minimum to 12288 and the max to 16384, and restart your computer.

Thank you for your response, I have attached the file you requested.

I've noticed my Sims 1 crashing most when there is a lot happening on the lot I'm on, even in my household that only has 1 sim in but with all the random cats and dogs roaming around could be a culprit as when I visit other lots, it's freezes. Most recently in downtown, crashed pretty much after my sim arrived on the lot.

My laptop is also brand new, like couple of days old new.

Will post the file you requested for Sims 2 in the forum you've suggested. Thanks Again!

  • ASweetLullaby  For the Sims 1 issue, please let me know whether there's any pattern to the crashing other than the time elapsed.  For example, are you playing in a specific area or doing something in-game that you weren't at other times?

Please also provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Please report the Sims 2 issue in that forum, preferably in an existing thread started after the patch.  Here's one you can use:

    The Sims 2 Legacy Direct3D Error | EA Forums - 11865572

A dxdiag would be helpful there too, as would a screenshot of the error.

  • adding to this that the update has broken my sims 2 game, directX error code when trying to enter any household.
