Sims 1 keeps crashing when I have a Burglar?

I have the same issue with the Burglar. My game would crash and permanently freeze up and I couldn't do anything to get out of the game unless I literally turned my computer off and turned it back on. I'm really quite upset. I haven't bothered testing to see if I have issues with vacation or visiting downtown yet. I'm thinking I'll just ask for a refund.

Reporting the same issue with The Sims 1 burglars. My game also freezes and I have to force close it. Windows 11.

MeggleMonsterYou don't have to turn off your computer, you can press ctrl + alt + delete and pick Task manager. From there you can right click on The Sims 1 process and kill it.

Same here, it seems to be happening in the process of stealing

Same here, even on speed 1. although this time the police managed to get there, but froze mid sprint. the music still works as in that the burglar got caught, but still need to force quit the game :(

Same thing keeps happening to me too! Game was running until the burglar showed up to steal our bear rug. My computer and drivers are up to date. I even tried repairing the game via the app and clearing the cache. Every time I open my game I’m stuck at the point where the burglar shows up. 

Coming back with a lead on why the game might be crashing so much.
I use a 5120 x 1440 monitor screen resolution, so I decided go and use an another screen resolution on the same monitor.
This time I loaded up the game while using 1366 x 678 display resolution. After testing the game 10 times where the Burglar enter the house I had zero crashes. I went back to my normal 5120 x 1440 Display resolution and the game crashes right away after the Burglar comes into the house to steal the item.
But the main issue is I play on a higher Display Resolution since it's easier on my eyes to read and play games.

Hopefully this is a good lead for someone to come up with a possible fix or the development team to look at with a clearer answer on why everyone is crashing so much.

Update: 

On steam right click the game, properties, launch options use "-w" let the game launch fully, then "ALT + ENTER" at the same time till you're back into full screen.

I'm having zero crashes as of now with my 5120 x 1440 screen resolution.
It's something to do with launching the game in full screen possibly? hope this helps anyone with this issue that may google it 
Tested this method 10 times in a row with the save and so far I'm not crashing.

It only happens if the burglar gets to the point of actually stealing stuff. I've put the burglar alarm outside and now police arrives before the burglar gets a chance to steal something. I haven't had a single crash since.

I'm having the same issue. So frustrating...

I already did that. I know about task manager. It's the first thing I tried. It did not work. Nothing i did could get out of the game. It literally froze my whole computer and it did it multiple times. That's why I had to turn the computer off at the wall. I'm serious. It sucks. 

Then we must have not had the same issue. I couldn't open task manager by right clicking the task bar as I usually do, but ctrl + alt + delete did work for me.
