Help Household won't open

Ok so I decide to clean my download files, go did that, then to remove half of the neighborhoods in hopes of speeding up my load time. No difference in game load but it loads, and so does the hood, but when I go to open a household it comes up and just keeps playing the music and the hour glass goes round and round and never opens. I tried in three different hoods I play. What have I done? Did I loose a file I need? Please help.

You should delete your cashe files. Groups.cashe and Accessory.cashe. Just open the Sims 2 folder in your documents, and they should be right on the bottom. It is safe to delete, the game will make new ones. You should always delete them when deleting CC. Unless you have read only files.
  • Thanks, I delete the group cashe a lot but never have the accessory. Will give it a try.

Ya the accessory file is for CC. :) Let me know if it worked, will keep thinking.

No it did not work. I am at a loss as to what I might have done.

Did you download anything new since the last time you played? Also some lots come with "extra" stuff, it might have messed things up if you deleted a lot with anything attached. Some lots can get things stuck to them.

You might want to delete the lot catalog file. It will make a new one.. BUT!!! It will only reload maxis houses, if you have any lots you wanted to keep, you will have to reinstall them. I suggest deleting it, going into a neighborhood you have not played (even starting a empty template hood if you have to) To let the game make a new folder, then reinstall your lot package files. Hopefully you kept the original package file after installing?
  • Maybe but don't think so on the download. I was just organizing the folders and taking out hoods I was not playing. Non of my hoods will let me into the household. Do I delete catalog life from each hood?

Oh you removed whole hoods and not just lots? Hmmm I am kinda at a loss then. Deleting a whole hood should not mess with things, I don't think :expressionless: I suppose maybe those could have something attached as well.

Have you tried removing the whole downloads folder and starting a test hood without it? It could be something in the downloads. Sometimes things can be downloaded without you knowing. If you can enter a household without a downloads folder, then there is something in there causing it.

If not, you might want to back-up your neighborhoods, graphic rules, video card files, and anything else you might have altered (cameras, alterations of other folders) Keep your downloads pulled out, and repair game in Origin. Then you can go through and just put your copied folders back in. It might help, but I am not positive it will.

Also you could go into your neighborhoods folder, and delete the neighborhood manager file on the bottom of the list. That might clear it out, try that first. It will regenerate and everything will be safe.
  • Ok I don't think I did but I deleted the catalog like you said and still no good. So back to the good old download folder. I took it out and the game lets me in fine. Now I just have to short through tons of downloads to fish out the problem. Thanks so much for trying to help me. I at least learned some stuff from you.

Your welcome. Ya it must be something that went into your downloads folder. Good luck sorting it out!
  • If a lot won't load after cleaning the downloads folder then you need that cc that was on that lot back into the game. Don't ever just delete cc from the downloads folder unless you are 100% sure no lots were using that content, that includes custom careers. Always sell stuff off the lot you no longer won't on a lot before you clean out the cc folders.
