@ofmanynames , interesting! Thanks for the update! 🙂
This may solve the problem, but I don't know how to obtain or install d3d9.dll. It's getting so that I think I will give up playing any Sims games. ☹️
- mate544 years agoHero+@elsie_d The Sims 2 might be tricky to run sometimes, but there is almost always a way to get it to work, even on Windows 10 and 11. If you can list the version of the game you have and what you've tried so far, we'll have somewhere to start.
You might want to start a new thread, though, because this one is over a year old. It's old yet still relevant. I have the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection. I've tried nothing so far except to come here for help. I saw this thread and have the same issue, so I thought it would be okay to resurrect it. 😳
Well, I tried to repair the game and have no mods installed, so there wasn't much I thought I could do.
@elsie_d , have you used the latest version of Graphics Rule Maker? It's version 2 found on SimNetwork. And also apply the 4GB patch as well. Those both seem to get rid of the DirectX error as that is mostly caused by the game not recognizing your newer graphics card.
- mate544 years agoHero+@elsie_d Disabling "Origin In Game" might help with crashing too, because the feature doesn't always play nice with The Sims 2.
The Graphics Rule Maker worked a treat for me. I'm now able to play the game again. I also applied the 4GB patch. Thanks!

I'm stuck here after adding the dll but still won't load. Can I load the game minus the stuff packs to help isolate the issue?
@kyburg60 , so what exactly have you done? Have you added the 2GB patch and used Graphics Rule Maker?
Probably not. Where would I find those resouces?
@kyburg60 , Google search for them and it should take you right to the site that hosts Graphics Rule Maker and I think there are some Sim fan sites that host the 2GB patch.
Is it possible to get more info from you about what dxvk is? I think I found it but I dont want to download the wrong thing.
Thanks!

@msjelly6191 It's been years since I did this but If you got to the github page for doitsujin/dxvk page, you want to download the dxvk-2.5.3.tar.gz option. You need to go into the zip (winrar or 7z works fine) and then find the d3d9.dll file in the archive and move it to the file location. I can't remember if it's for x32 or x64 anymore. Try one and see if it works and switch up if it doesn't.
I've been able to get the game to run! However, everything is flashing hot pink - what setting would cause this?
You need the Graphics Rules maker mod, it's because the game wasn't made to handle newer systems. You also might need the 4 gb patch if you didn't apply that yet. Both of them should be the first result when you search for it.
Both have been applied.
