So small temporary fix that works for me and I hope it helps some of you:

So you will need to put a -w at the end of the file. Right click The Sims 2 desktop icon and click on Properties. After the quotation mark put a space then type -w after and apply. You may need to delete and type in again to apply. I had to do it at least three times to get my game to work.
After I was able to get in I played with the Graphics/Performance Options of the game. I put the screen size to 1680x1050 and the game has been working for me. I was able to create a family without it crashing so far. I've been able to change all of the settings to high and so far it's been playable. I hope EA will fix the files so we don't have to go through this rigamarole. But I hope it helps.
