The only CC I have paid for was a donation to Sandy @ AroundTheSims. I have no experience with any other site or creator, sorry OP.
I can understand be worried about TheSimsResource. I don't download from there often but when I do, I use Adblock Plus and TSR Ad Skipper (free browser add-ons). It also helps that I have Norton and Malwarebytes. I convert all sims3packs to package form and place it in a separate folder from the rest of the CC. If something goes wrong, I can easily find it and remove it. Doesn't hurt to keep game backups as well.
