I think it's smart if you know you're going to keep buying points. If you buy it $10 or $20 at a time, and keep buying more each time you want something.... it stills adds up, but it's easier to feel like you're spending less even if you're probably spending more or the same.
I can't afford that, but I'm in college so what CAN I afford? haha
I know plenty of people (since the oil industry is big up here) that would consider that pocket change.
