Back In Time Questions

I decided to play the Sims 3 again after being away from it for over a decade.  I’ve forgotten some things.  I want to play a science fiction game so I just installed the packs that I felt I needed for this.  So I installed the base game, Lunar Lakes, Into The Future, Ambitions, and Pets.  When I went into Create A Sim I tried to apply tattoos and they are almost invisible.  Are the tattoos too low res for a modern computer?  If I apply them in Create A Sim will they look better in gameplay?  In Create A Sim I didn’t any Into The Future Outfits that I know of.  Do I need to look for those after the game has been going a bit?

Texture on clothing and services when viewed close up look very soft. I don’t remember them looking this bad when I played the Sims years ago. My computer is far above the specs that were available at the time the game was released.  Is there anything I can do to make them look better?  Is it me or does the Sims 3 look underlit?  I noticed a lot of dark rooms, etc.

I’m a Sims 4 player, but the Sims 4 has yet to come up with any science fiction themed expansions other than Journey To Batu.  So that’s why I’m firing up the Sims 3.

Any suggestions to a returning player.  I discarded all my Prima Guides for the game years ago.

  • Not sure on what you mean by "services", but I think if your in-game graphic settings are low, that it might look blurred/messy. Now, I'm not saying that it'll look like today's graphics, but it might be good enough in some way to where it's somewhat visually pleasing. Try enabling advanced rendering. This might help with the smeared look when it comes to something like how certain textures look.

And in terms of lighting, you probably have to install some other mods to help with brightening up the livelihood of your game (ex: lightning mods, hq mods, maybe reshade). There's also some debug lights in-game that might help with giving the room a certain look as well as playing the game in borderless minimized mode (this is just to help with taking screenshots that tend to show up really dark when in full-screen and if you're using a shader, then use a custom keybind for it), but I can't think of much outside of those suggestions. I'm also not so tech savvy enough to help you outside of that in regards to if it's a graphics card issue (sorry), so maybe someone here or on some other forum like reddit could help in shedding some light on to what will probably be most beneficial towards you. As far as custom tutorials goes for tattoos, I'm not so sure on how well up-to-date they are.

  • Tomsde  It's normal for some patterns to look sharp in CAS and blurry in live mode.  Tattoos should have more color to them though, especially in CAS.  Could you post some screenshots of what the tattoos look like in CAS and live mode?

Please also post the first 40 or so lines of DeviceConfig, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3.  (Stop when you get to the Options section.)  You can delete your user and computer names, about 20 lines down; the file doesn't contain any other personal information.

Thanks for answering.  I was having glitches in the Sims 3 so I decided to uninstall it.  I'll just stick with the Sims 4 for now, and I find the tattoos to be acceptable there.
