The same happened to me after I had to reset Windows for a recurring blue screen crash. And the DirectX is indeed the solution! What was interesting though I just bought this new laptop a month ago on a display discount and I didn't encounter the DirectX issue. I assume the laptop actually was first activated by the retailer around last December. Perhaps this has been a relatively new issue? I wish this could be part of the official troubleshooting guide, which could save me time.
