How Long Does It Take to Own the Store
You can own the store sooner than you expect, if you:
- shop the DD and the Sale! pages
- plan and track your purchases using the DD spreadsheet for your time zone
- take advantage of Complete Your Set and cascading of sets, especially the Animal Abounds cascade (see below)
- use SimPoints wisely; don't purchase additional items in a set if, due to your CYS discount, the set will be free when it appears on the DD
- regularly check set pages for green download buttons after the Sales page changes, when you receive an new item or set, or when you complete a Featured Look set
- enter lotteries and contests
- don’t be shy and post on the Gifting Directory
- post in the Complete a Set thread
- post your wishlist in your signature
- keep your wishlist clean by removing items from sets and the set too if the set will be free when it comes up on the DD
Complete Your Set (CYS)
Combining the savings from Daily Deal purchases and the Complete Your Set discount allows you to get the most value for your Simpoints.
What is Complete Your Set
The Complete Your Set feature gives you credit for the individual items you have purchased of a set and offers the set at a discounted CYS price. When a set is offered on the DD, your CYS discount will be reduced. It can even be reduced enough to allow you to complete the set for free. For additional info, read the FAQ page and ajaxpost's post which is quoted a bit further down.
UPDATE (AUGUST 2020): Please read the following posts by @puzzlezaddict noting that "the 90% rule" may now be the 80% rule.
SpiredMoth shared further findings with the CYS discount:

Working towards Best of 2012 actually allowed me to uncover ANOTHER change in the CYS discount based on how much of a set you own: somewhere between 60% and 75% the discount changes from 80% to 70%. Building off of puzzlezaddict's work, I estimated the new change and my calculations became correct. Since I made this change (the day I bought Enchanted Bundle in April 2021) my calculations have only been wrong on 2 of 376 test cases, which were Kids! 2010 and Tip Top Toddler Collection (known to be bugged via the Animals Abound cascade).
| Set | Owned | Owned % | Store CYS | 80% CYS | 70% CYS |
| ---------------------- | ----: | ------: | --------: | ------: | ------: |
| More Magic! | 1448 | 81 | 235 | 265 | 235 |
| May 2011 Compilation | 3804 | 75 | 60 | 70 | 60 |
| April 2012 Compilation | 2826 | 60 | 435 | 435 | 380 |
Daily Deal / CYS Calculators
Some Simmers have created tools to calculate the CYS discount for when a set is offered on the DD
- SpiredMoth's S3S Tools spreadsheet is designed to help save as many simpoints as possible with your store purchases. The spreadsheet includes the Make Me an Offer Checker and Complete Your Set calculator. SpiredMoth's calculator was created in 2022 and is the most current of the calculators.

Shogo_Yahagi's No-Math Guide to CYS
If a set allows CYS credit:
1) If you don't own anything from the set, always buy the cheapest item in the set before buying the set, even if you have to pay full price.
2) Never buy an item with less than a 10% discount, unless it is the first item you buy.
3) Always buy an item with more than a 10% discount, even if the set is going to go on sale later for a better discount.
As long as you know those three rules, you can always save SP, even if you have no idea about the math under the hood that makes them work.
Ajaxpost presented detailed information about Complete Your Set when he hosted DD (Daily Deal) Rotation & Sales Help: Started 1 April; Ended 21 May

ALWAYS Check the Set Page, NOT the DD Page!
If you already have items in a set that on DD and have a CYS discount, or indeed already own the whole set, the DD page itself may not show this.
To make sure you see the actual price you will pay (including any CYS discount) or confirm that you already own the set, click on the set title to see the full details and that page should show your correct price.
Getting Great Discounts Using Complete Your Set
The 'Complete Your Set' feature introduced on (about) 17th July is a great new way to bag amazing deals on the sets you want - especially if you make use of great DD discounts or, better still, the FREE items.
The Daily Deal Stalkers Research Team in association with our Mathematicians In Residence, Shogo_Yahagi, Jaquaine and PakaJynx, have some very useful advice to offer:
Calculate the CYS Discount On A Set
The basic rule for working out the CYS price is (Set Price*.9)-(Item Cost*.9) rounded up to the nearest 5sp.
So, for example, if a set normally costs 1000sp and the price of all the items in it that you have bought individually is 300sp then your CYS price would be about 630sp (900 - 270).
Calculate the CYS Discount On A Compilation or Combo
The same 90% rule still applies but the trick here is working out which set(s) within the compilation have the most expensive items because that will give you the best discount on the compilation - it may not be the most expensive set and is seldom properly balanced. PakaJynx gave us this example for the Island Escape compilation which normally costs 2400 but the total cost of all the items in the three sets is 3028:
Island Villa 300 (cost of all items = 381)
Full Tiki Set 575 (cost of all items = 872)
Tiki Outdoor Party 1600 (cost of all items = 1775)
If you own the Full Tiki set that would count for 872sp out of the total 3028sp, about 29%. Then using the normal formula (2400* .9)-(872 * .9) you should see a CYS price of 1375sp
Stack Your Discounts
CYS discounts are applied in addition to any Sale page or Daily Deal discount so if you know a set you're after is going to be on sale or is on the DD rotation it's worth waiting to get two discounts in place of just one.
These handy calculators should give you a good estimate of your final price when stacking CYS with a Sale or DD discount:
- From Elianahere: Just type in the CYS and DD numbers to get your best price:
(Update: Link to Elianahere's CYS Calculator removed as the site is listed as no longer being secured.)- From APotts: Type in your CYS and the DD discount % to get your best price, or see what % will give you a set for free: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjBxKQ-zJWrQdEIyaFVjWHgxVWhzSE41eXBvU3dCY1E&usp=sharing#gid=0 (can be downloaded so you can play with different numbers.
If you love doing the sums yourself, the information below should help you work out what your final discount price should be or you could use one of the calculators above.
We have Jaquaine to thank for her help in calculating the DD+CYS discounts. This is especially useful when the DD list repeats because you can now check what your final price is likely to be and budget your simpoints accordingly.
The equation is Your Final Price = (DD Price * .9)- ((Full Price * .9) - Normal CYS price)
So, using an example Wallin gave us:
Let's say there's a set for 1000. You own some of it already, so your CYS price is 800. Then it comes up on the DD at 50% off, so the DD price is only 500.
Following the formula:
Full Price = 1000
Normal CYS Price = 800
DD Price = 500
(Full Price * .9) - Normal CYS Price → 900 - 800 → 100
(DD Price * .9) - 100 → 450 - 100 → 350
(1000 * .9) - 800 = 100
(500 * .9) - 100 = 350
So you should expect to only pay 350sp, or something very close to that.
....
The first item you buy in a set that is CYS enabled takes more off the price of the set than you paid for the item. But this only works for the first item.
Normally each item you buy only reduces the set price by 90% of the cost of the item but for the first item you also get a bonus of 10% of the whole set price. If you buy the first item in a set at full price, your discount is equal to (10% of the Set Price) - (10% of the item cost).
The 10% of the item cost that you lose is the difference between what you pay and what you save. Therefore the more expensive the item is that you buy the less you will save.
Buy The Venue First
NOTE: This advice is currently contested. The "assumed" values for venues may not be as substantial as previously thought. There have been documented reports that purchasing Le Cinema Plumbob and The Stones Throw Greenhouse will get you either a very large CYS discount on the compilations that they are part of or even, potentially, make them free. Not all venues will be as significant. In particular the Regency Arcade appears to be have been greatly overvalued. Until such time as we can get up-to date values for the venues please use caution and only buy them when their price is acceptable to you on its own; do not pay more for them than you are happy with just to get an extra discount on a compilation.
There is one slight problem with doing the maths on compilations and that is when a venue is included.
The problem is that you cannot see the true total cost of a venue. You will normally see a price for any PC that is included but the various build/buy and CAS items are not usually available individually so you do not know how much they would cost and, of course, there is some value in the build itself. Generally venues are worth a lot more than their normal value.
For example the March 2013 compilation (normal price 3250) includes the Live, Laugh, Love set (normally 1770) and Le Cinema Plumbob (normally 1900). However, although they appear to be close enough in value they have totally different effects on the CYS calculation. Again, let's use PakaJynx's example:
We're going to assume a reasonable 3500sp total value for the Cinema, due to it having 2 pieces of PC, which is slightly over the value of the arcade in October 2011 at 3355sp. {NOTE: These values, especially for the Arcade are contested. Recent purchasers suggest that the value of the Arcade is closer to 2000sp}
March 2013 price = 3250
LLL value = 2220
Cinema value = 3500
(Set Price*.9)-(Item Cost*.9) = CYS
Buying LLL: (3250*.9)-(2220*.9) = 927 → 925
Buying Cinema: (3250*.9)-(3500*.9) = -225 → Free
As you can see, just by buying the slightly more expensive venue we get the other set for free but doing it the other way round would leave us a big CYS price! Similar effects are seen in other compilations that include a venue.
