Getting Help with Owning the Store - Gifting, Lotteries and Contests
Of course you are able to own the store if you depend on acquiring items only with SimPoints you purchase. However, so many Simmers enjoy gifting others, you could own the store so much sooner than you expect. To make it easier for others to gift you:
How to Post Your Wishlist in Your Signature
Franny outlines the steps in her post in the previous DD thread
Note: As per this post by EA_Leeloo, new members must attain full member status to add a signature. In order to become a member, you have to have 25 points and 15 posts and be registered for at least 24 hours.
To Add Your Wishlist to Your Signature:
Click on the gear icon, beside the search box, on the top right of any page on the Sims forum
Click preferences
Click on "Signature Settings" found on the left hand side, above "My Badges"
Click in the text box and copy and paste the text in the yellow highlight into the text box, replacing "yourusername" with the your username for the Sims 3 site. (Some people have a different username for the Sims 3 site and this forum.)
What is a Clean Wishlist
So many Simmers, who own the store, are still actively hunting for bonus ads and want to share their bounty with those Simmers who still have not joined the I Own the Store Club. Those who have yet to join the IOS club enjoy gifting just as much. The easiest way to gift is to purchase from wishlists. If you still do not own the store, how can you help? Please have a clean wishlist.
Many of us look for clean wishlists so that we can maximize the value of the points. What is a clean wishlist?
Anettesb and Storewench explain it perfectly.
To summarize:
The Gifting Directory
The Gifting Directory thread hosted by Reachsims is a meeting place where you post a link to your wishlist and the top 5 items you want which makes it easier for other simmers who want to share extra simpoints by gifting others. Don't be shy about joining - we want to help people own the store.
Complete a Set
Complete a Set is a thread where simmers help fellow simmers to complete a set they are working on completing. List the set you are working on and have items from that set on your wishlist.
Lotteries and Contests
The Gift Gathering - Thank You & Gifting section of the forum includes many lotteries and contests hosted by simmers. Prizes range from some items to venues and worlds.
Post Your Progress in the DD Thread
Our DD thread is still one of the most active in the Store forum. By posting your progress in this thread, and following the other tips posted above, you make it easier for other DD Stalkers, both past and present, to gift you. You may want to give us a heads up on sets you are going for a day or two before they are scheduled to appear on the DD. That way, those of us with extra simpoints could purchase items from the set to lower the CYS discount - hopefully to get you the green download button.

So what is a Squeaky clean wish list?
A clean wish list has no doubles on it, that means you don’t have both the set, the sub-set the compilation set and the single item on your list! It means any item will only be on your list 1 time, in any form.
It also means that you, to be fair, don’t have a set on your list, if you own a single item already, just put all the single items on the list, and before you know it there’s a chance you can get the set for free with Complete Your Set.
A wish list that isn’t clean is what I call messy.
Why is it so important to keep it clean?
Put simply to avoid double purchase, and the hassle with customer support to, maybe get the points back (that is hardly ever possible)
“Many people think they are helping gifters by having the choice of single item, subset, comp set all on their wl's, so that if someone can't afford the big set, it gives them the option to buy a smaller one or parts of. But they all need to know that this only confuses gifters ... I mean I have seen dozens with both versions of sunlit tides on their wl's, and this is simply unexceptable”

I have been to several wishlists today and seen many of them with the Le Cirque Celebration (complete set) on the person's list as well as the Le Cirque Esprit subset and the Le Cirque Nouveau subset. I even saw one wishlist that had the three sets and some of the individual circus items.
The two subsets make up the Le Cirque Celebration set and the only difference is with the complete set you get the premium Chocolate Fountain.
What happens when someone comes along and gifts you the complete set the other subsets remain on your list for another gifter to come along and gifts you one or both subsets thinking you just want them and not the premium objects. Now you have duplicate sets, and if someone else comes along and does not see the sets - which have been bought and buys you individual items you end up with even more duplicates.
These duplications, while making sure you get a set one way or the other depending on what a gifter wants to spend, just wasted a gifters money since you can only install the sets or items once. Sadly this means that the simpoints have gone to waste and could have been used to gift other things on your list and/or been simpoints to gift others.
In a couple of cases I know the people are very new and trying to win the set or enough simpoints for a subset or items from the set so are trying to, probably, cover all bases since contest say to have these on your lists. It’s still the wrong way to do this because it poses a high risk of duplication.
If you want it on your wl to be what you win in a contest and the prize is different sets or subsets or simpoints to buy some pieces, don't put them on your list unless you win. Hosts will understand and will post to tell you to make sure its on your wl in most every case, appreciating that you don't wish to risk duplication.
This is always hard for people when making a list because they want to give gifters a choice depending on how much they have to spend but you really have to make a decision whether to put the complete set on your list, or the subsets, or the individual items, because to do otherwise is a bad risk, even if you are up all night to watch your email for gift messages, you could still not be fast enough to remove the ones that would cause duplication.
Sadly I skipped many a wl tonight that had both the complete set and the subsets listed because I did not want to gift a complete set and then have someone else come along and, with no way to know, gift the subsets.
So take a few minutes, please, and clean up your wishlists to avoid cases of duplication.
To summarize:
- It is preferable to put single items on your wishlist rather than the set
- Only include enough items to lower your CYS to the point when you will get the green download button
- If you know the set will eventually be free when it comes up on the DD, remove any single items still on your wishlist
- Don’t put single items on your list for sets that are not eligible for CYS discount if you want to eventually complete the set. For example, Seeing Stars is not eligible for CYS. This comment is not meant for sets like Safari Living Set, which is not CYS, because it is included in a compilation that is eligible for CYS.
- Don’t be shy and only put items worth 25 sp on your list. Many gifters want to purchase the more expensive items to make a larger dent in your CYS.
