Do you find it hard to get reconnected after you haven't played in a while?

When I took a two year break I didn't come back to an existing family but imagine it would be difficult to get to the point where I felt attached to an old family as I feel a little "lost" when I leave a family for a few months these days. There are many sims I feel attached to even if I haven't played them for years but not so much them in a family settings.
