Do you let sims with common ancestors that the game no longer considers related be romantic?

Most,if not all of us probably already know that the game doesn't consider sims related after a generation or 2 and a sim can be attracted to e.g their 2nd cousin. When things like this happen, do you let your sims pursue their interest or do you avoid it?
  • Yes I would if I wanted to create drama >:)
But honestly with some of my longer legacy challenges, a large fraction of the population is somehow related to the family (at least through marriage), and I stopped caring lol
  • @sofie981 Thank you for reading my story! The next chapters are waiting to be written, the pics are already taken but I'm still busy with overhauling the last chapters in part one!

I was a little in love with one of my handsome cousins when I was around thirteen, but he was nineteen and as you can imagine, didn't really see me! :joy: I read a story the other day about two people falling madly in love, moving in together and having a child, then finding out they were siblings, having been adopted away as toddlers. It was a huge thing, lots of questions and sudden disgust. They separated, but kept in touch because of their child. Then, after getting some distance to their situation, they realized they still loved each other exactly as before and moved back together... I think it was a beautiful story, even though I'm not sure about my own reaction if being in the same situation... :/

I love Norway - it is one of the countries I always advertise a lot about! I live in the French Alps since a couple of years, and even though the nature is pretty awesome here, too, when I visited last summer, the magnificence of the nature still hit me like a punch between the eyes! I think you get what I mean... :D
  • I don't think i would like it as in game i would know they where related, but if they truly loved eachother then i wouldn't stand in their way, as it's no problem geneticly between 2'cousins.
In real life i have cousins i have never met, and any children from our generation would be oblivios to any relations until it was a bit late (HUM) I also have so much 2'nd cousins that i have given up in trying to find out if i am related to and how. The fact that i don't "sleep around" is probably a blessing in this situation :D

    - how much are they related to that cousin

    What do you mean?

  • The only reason I'd ever do that to my sims is for the sake of drama and jokes. But no, I probably wouldn't do it. I prefer to not have inbred sims. :)

  • The game's "genetics/inheritance":

    XML Genetics:

    XML Pregnancy (excerpt):

    Spoiler

    XML Health Manager (excerpt):

    There could be more!

Romantic interactions are differentiated from Try for baby; the latter do to my knowledge not happen autonomously in unmodded game, although townies can be given offspring by Story Progression.

There are lots of interesting writings on anthropology and kinship as well as genetics; I have read Gayle S. Rubin and Claude Lévi-Strauss for instance.
