I always have a background story of some sort in my head for every household and sim that I start. Back when I played Sims 2, I started out just playing and not caring and then I thought one day, but where did they come from? So I restarted my game with some sims in old fashioned clothing so that they would appear like that in the family tree, progressing to newer fashion periods as the generations did. Then I had to make up a story about where THEY came from. Ever since, I've only ever been able to play with some kind of imagined beginnings.
