Game crashes out of nowhere

Hi :)

I've recently bought a new gaming laptop with all the right specs for the game (and even better). I've installed all my packs, mods and cc into my game and it looks great! Bit of lag sometimes, but the sims wouldn't be the sims otherwise.

The thing is; my game crashes out of nowhere. No extreme lagging, freezing of the screen, no error or any messages whatsoever. It just goes straight to my desktop. I do get the xcpt file in my sims 3 folder, but that's it. Does anyone know what this causes?

I've read some things about turning off your DEP for the sims. Downloading DirectX for the game too. But I can't find enough information about it. I don't want to do things I shouldn't and mess up my new laptop.

Can someone please help me? I would really appreciate it!

  • Hi! I'm sorry you're having trouble with your new laptop.

Sims 3 does tend to have serious issues with crashing on even the most high-end computers, and the problem is sometime it's hard to identify the source of the crash. The first thing I'd say it to make sure all your CC & mods are from trusted websites and are up to date, because no matter what with CC & mods, you might have compatibility issues or other problems within your game.

Did you load any saved games in that you might have had before? If you did, it could be a corrupted save file.

And you said there's no error message? That's kind of odd for me at least, whenever mine crashes I usually get some kind of an 'exception raised' or 'sims 3 has stopped working.' The 'xcpt' file is related to an exception. Your game is basically encountering some kind of an error that causes it to shut down, although I don't know why it's not giving you any sort of warning. I'm not sure if the "Exception Raised" error is just specific to Mac, though.

People who know more on this will probably be along any minute now. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help!
  • @xLunaSimsx @SuzyCue72 Hey, thank you both for your answers!

Not having a error message confused me too! After trying lots of different things I decided to give the bad cc another try. And of course, there was this one dress thingy that had turned corrupt. Everything is fixed now and the game runs smoothly! :3

@Bobbilicious That sounds great! :) Let's just hope it stays that way.
