How do I get rid of doubles/clones/doppelgangers?

I didnt know the copy bin was a thing...i deleted them from there, tried to kill the sim but they teleported away, and i tried to delete them as an object with testingcheats. Theyre still there!!

  • Nevermind, one of those worked. Deleted those sims. Please ignore.
  • Wait, what? I think we might need a bit more information there. You have duplicates of your sims in your actual world and they came from...where? And why are we testingcheats deleting sims, that only deletes their bodies not their underlying data and leads to game corruption.

Remind us, are you using mods at all? There are better ways to get rid of unwanted sims however they got to be there such as by using the Total Annihilation command (selectively, not on the entire town) from NRaas MasterController.

Edit: Sorry, posted too slowly I guess. But the concern over testingcheats deleting sims remains. :)
  • This happened to me a couple of years ago. I'd made a sim for the oldest child of my founder, placed him in a house in Edit Town, introduced him to my family and moved him in, married him to the daughter, and bought them a house so they could be out of my hair. (I did this all in one in-game afternoon, because I'm romantic like that.) I did use MC to give the guy a decent career once they left, since the daughter was an elementary school teacher with expensive taste.

About a week later, I noticed that the newlywed's mother had a new coworker... with the same name, face, and outfit of the sim I'd married to her daughter. I thought that maybe the game had reassigned him when another coworker retired, but when I went to fix it, the husband was still in the career I'd picked for him. Furthermore, the new coworker and my sim didn't know each other, which wasn't the case before. So I used MC focus to try to figure out what was going on, and there were not two, but THREE of the same sim in the game. The third was unemployed and living in a house with other random townie sims. (The second sim—the coworker—was homeless, like a few other coworkers SV is known to spawn.) Since I'd never deleted the sim I created from the library, the game had replicated him twice for no apparent reason.

Luckily for me, I noticed I could tell the difference among the three clones by their ages as listed in MC—since the library sim was always the same age, each copy's in-game age corresponded to his "arrival" in town. So the married sim was the oldest, and the interlopers were, if I remember correctly, five and eight days younger. Long story short, this is when I discovered the beauty of Total Annihilation.

    Wow, Long story is pretty.
  • I had the exact same thing happen to me a few years back. It all started I was playing in Bridgeport, and the game just got so glitchy and a horrible lag. (This was before I knew about the NRaas Mods.) So I saved my family to the bin and started up a new game save, in the town that came with Showtime. I happened to notice there was a sim running around town as the same name as my sim, and she looked just like her. I then followed the doppelganger to her home, and had discovered that the whole family had been put in again by the computer from the bin. I had a bad experience in the past of deleting sims, so I cheated and completely changed the doppelgangers in CAS, new names, faces, and outfits. I then went to my bin and deleted the family, and made sure never to leave a copy in the family bin after that.
