How to Operate a Daycare?

One of my sims tried having a daycare as a business, way back when I was first playing, but it glitched out. One of the guardians who dropped off a kid stayed and was stuck and starved and got smelly until he finally moved from the spot but then fainted.

While Grady is in the study reading the newspaper, Egduardo, a townie who brought Columbo's daycare kid yesterday, is still stuck, getting smelly, hungry and tired. Since he's just a townie with no family connections, we're just leaving him there.

Oh my gawd, at 3.48am, almost 2 days later, Edgardo walked away from his spot. Hopefully to go home.

No such luck, it was only to faint again. At least he's in a different room now.

The game said if 'Dante' doesn't get fed soon the social worker will close the daycare. Dante is at home, this loser is Edgardo. Columbo offered some lobster thermidore but he's not taking it.

I don't know what I ended up doing about it but I must have reset him, and then a bit later my sim switched to a different career, and then a couple of pages later my memory-story went:

 And it said:

Her household also needs to move because the glitchy daycare left a bunch of shiny oval rugs where the parents all dropped off their kids and never left. Furniture etc can't be placed there and build and buy mode won't let me delete them, even after resetting the house and household.

Now during the time that he had the daycare, I did switch households to pick up someone's urn and switched back, and its not for certain if the trouble started before or after. However during the switch, a daycare centre symbol displayed in the neighbourhood over their house just like how parties have the party symbol, or the medical jobs appear and such. So that indicated to me that it was 'operating' while I was in the other house.

I was also not saving-as, only saving. Would either the household switch or the Save instead of Save-As been the cause of it?

I've moved on from that save years ago (2015), and never tried another daycare. However I'd like to try a daycare again now, in a different save, house and world. Is there anything anyone can tip me on for getting it to work properly, and not glitch out like that again? Or has it always had problems with no avoiding the eventual shiny oval rugs and stuck sims?

Also, does it eventually get kids as well as or instead of toddlers?

If a sim ever gets glitched or stuck you can use the cheat "resetsim (full name)". Without the quotations and brackets.

Yes you do eventually get children as well as toddlers the more you progress. In my experience most or all of the professions end up being buggy in one way or another. For example I tried the lifeguard profession a few days ago and my sim lost the "go to work" button from the job panel and it never ended up coming back. I tried stylist as well and even when I did everything correct some sims would hate their outfits, and when I did the firefighter profession the game would tell me there are still fires needing to be put out however there were none on the lot so the job would never complete. And finally I also did the singer career but my sim would start getting stuck on stage with no music playing and I would need to reset them every time.

According to my old story back in 2015 though, resetting still left the shiny oval rugs which wouldn't delete. I have a feeling it was before I had much of a handle on NRAAS Master Controller and possibly before I got Error Trap or Overwatch.

I thought maybe someone had come up with things to do and not do to not set off the glitches, or advice on what part of the NRAAS mods to use when signs of the glitches come up, or settings in them that avoid the glitches, or even a community-made patch for it.

Or have people just ended up ruling out trying a daycare or the other professions anymore?

Has anyone had any success with it? How?

They still do work to some degree but usually end up being buggy in some way or another. You may as well try it again and see how you go you might end up not getting any bugs at all haha.

Master controller, Overwatch and error trap are all really good mods to use for sure though.

  • DivinylsFan  The "shiny oval rugs" are social jigs, invisible objects that denote the area where two or more sims are interacting so other sims don't path through them.  These jigs are supposed to disappear when the interactions stop, but that sometimes doesn't happen when an interaction is interrupted, particularly when it's interrupted as you're reloading the save.

To delete them, click the ground of the lot, select NRaas > MC > Object Stats > Not Inventory, and flush anything with "jig" its name.  If you catch one still being used, the sims involved may move to the side a bit or lose their current interaction but won't be harmed overall.
