Some of my Sim families has a dog. Not the household with that particularly annoying Imaginary Friend though but if I do get them one and teach it the hunting skill maybe I will be lucky enough that it would find one. It might have to have a high amount of hunting skill to be able to find a rainbow gem though. That household does have one of those chemistry tables though that you can also try to make that potion to make them real.
