I think so. I admit that it has been a while since I played, but at the end of 3's lifespan before I played 4 regularly I played using it a fair bit. Houseboats and underwater were fun. I played vanilla, though, and I don't have the room to reinstall today, but if you are playing 3 actively I don't see it being a bad investment.
