music from the sims 3 have been used by Disney channel

I have nothing to do with it, I just noticed it. Disney is not the first company to steal music from the sims 3 however. sparebank 1 I believe and another company in Norway stole it and used it as well but, I could contact those and they stopped after that. contacting Disney is not as easy.

The music of the Sims 3 was composed by Steve Jablonsky with 20th Century Fox which is now owned by Disney. Doesn't sound like they stole it.
  • No, I agree with @ScottDemon. I've heard Sims 3 music quite a lot lately and I thought it just meant they had sold the rights! It's fun to hear it on TV.

Well the good thing is that hearing it makes me want to play TS3. It's like they are indirectly promoting it ahaha
  • I don't have a horse in this race, so to speak, meaning that the issue does not affect me one way or the other. But I would like to point out that Disney does not have a reputation for blatantly ignored intellectual property laws nor doing (stealing) things by accident. One might think they have a lawyer or two on staff. Or perhaps a world full of them. Isn't AttorneyLand one of the major sections of their flagship theme park? :)

More like they have 2000 to 3000 and a few *cough* judges *cough*.
  • Sims music has been heard in a lot of shows/commercials/etc. Given that it's so common, it's more than likely not stealing. No doubt they pay to use Sims music in their shows.
  • They should release this into the charts:

Although it probably charted many years earlier and Maxis borrowed it
  • one of the companies in Norway used it without even knowing that it was from the sims 3. all rights to the sims 3 including its sound track is owned by electronic arts.

EA can allow companies to pay to use the music. It's called licensing. I don't know about this company from Norway you've been mentioning, but I've heard Sims music in fairly popular TV shows, and I doubt it's just being stolen left and right without EA doing anything about it. The company in Norway may not have known because EA might not make it explicitly clear that the music is from TS3 when they license it.

EA owns the right to use the music. Steve Jablonsky makes music for videos games, movies and television shows it how he makes his living he also has rights to the music as does the recording studio 20th Century Fox as they and Jablonsky would get royalties from the music.
And as I stated 20th Century Fox is now owned by Disney and they also gain those rights as the parent company.
