Question About Level 10 to 9 (SOLVED)

I'm not certain whether I should post this here or in the tech section. My question concerns the mechanics of the game and game play options.

I have several Sims who are level 10 in the military career. However, when these Sims go from being a part of my active household to become regular townies, the game keeps setting them back to level 9. Are level 10 Sims not allowed to keep the status they have worked for once becoming a townie? This also happens with Sims in the Medical career.

In an active household, Sims who are level 10 in the military only work a single day a week, which leaves them with four days they can be assigned (by me) to do other non-career work such as working the register at one of my shops, helping to maintain my world's environment, tutoring children or training future military folks (or potential athletes). At level 9 they have a three day a week schedule which severely limits what I can accomplish with them.

I would really hate to 'retire them from service once they reach level 10. Plus, I'd hate for them to lose the income of that days pay. However, the balance of my world depends on Sims performing more than a single job (plus, it keeps my population count down if I don't have to bring in additional Sims).

So, is this level 10 to 9 a game thing which happens to Sims in all careers or when they become townies? Or, are my Sims slacking off at work and just being demoted?

  • Are you using EA's story progression or NRaas SP here and, if the latter, do you have the SP Career add-on module in play?

@igazor - Nope, running just regular ol' (EAs) SP game mechanics. Only NRaas mods installed are MC, MC cheats, Error trap & Overwatch.
  • Okay, I'm not aware of a built-in mechanism that automatically downgrades sims' job levels like that. NRaas SP has one, which is why I asked, called Restrict Some Levels to a Single Sim, and a variation called Only One May Lead through which an actively being played sim always "wins" the situation where two sims cannot occupy the same high level of certain careers. For example, there cannot be two Mayors nor two Superintendents of Schools in the same world (or at least working at the same rabbithole career) at the same time.

Guess that doesn't apply here then and am not sure it would have for Astronaut anyway. Can they remain on Level 10 if you use MC Cheats to promote them again or do they keep getting bumped back?

@igazor - I don't know if they will retain the level if reset using MC Cheats, I've never thought to take that approach. I'll try it and see what the game decides to do with them. BTW, when I checked City Hall to see if any of the Sims were failing at work or headed for a demotion, all of my townie-Sims were doing well on the job so this may-well be how the game was/is designed.

@igazor - Okay, I had to play through a few days before I could get to Monday to see if this would work.

I reset the Sim on Saturday and the level stayed at least until he went to work. On Monday, I used 'MC's focus on Sim' to make certain he was actually located in the rabbit hole during the hours he was supposed to be, he was. I want to give it at least a week to test to see if the settings will stay or if the game will revert him back down to a level 9 status. All the requirements have been met and exceeded for this line of work (Military) so there should be no demotions (unless he chooses not to go to work). I'll update after I've completed a full week and then I'll know if this is a permanent solution or if I have to take other measures.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. Keeping my fingers crossed that this will do the trick ;)!

@igazor - After playing for a Sim week, my Sim's job level hasn't declined so I'm calling this solution a success! He works the appropriate hours and wears the correct uniform for his level (10).

    Thanks-a-bunch! :)
