I agree with ya, I find TS4 lacking.Though I do wish TS3 had restaurants to dine out at and mutli-tasking, but still love TS3 better.Out of those two, I like Ambitions better, I love the careers you can play.
TS3 can have open restaurants even though the content is only provided by store content. The point is, the optional gameplay is there regardless if someone chooses to own it or not. Unfortunately, something like that should come with either the base game or at the very least a well thought EP. But I won't complain much as thankfully they did include something than nothing at all.

With mods, it helps to enhance the versatility of the store content. Though I wish the content was more than it was but close enough.

Multi-tasking? I still don't understand where some are getting the notion that TS3 does not have this. No offense, but it's like some don't even know the definition of the word or else they would know. Especially, having played a previous iteration. It seems some don't really pay attention and I can see why it is so easy for marketing to get some to believe whatever they tell them. There has always been multi-tasking since the very first The Sims (2000). Just that as later installments were introduced, there were improvements and added actions that could be done at the same time.

3 actions all at the same time.
-Socializing
-Listening to music
-Dancing to the music
There are many examples in not only TS3 but in TS2 as well. TS4 is not as special as they make it out to sound but the observant can pick up quick on that and see the game's true colors. I guess everyone else is either intentionally blind or just ignorantly blind.
