Settings to prevent game from crashing?

My Sims 3 game crashes every now and then. I have a high performance gaming PC with a top-of-the-line graphics card, and it is updated, so I'm guessing the settings are probably the issue. Could someone please tell me what I need to adjust my settings to in order to stop this from happening again? Thank you!
