@Nikkei_Simmer - Yep, those Sims were randomly generated by the game. I don't know where (which lot) they are using to enter the world, but I have found their exit. It seems every couple of sim days I have to rescue one of the three from under the ground on the beach, in the exact same spot!
I don't have NRaas' SP mod in my game so it's not influencing the Sims. And as far as sentience is concerned, the Sims 3 can become as sentient as it wants as long as it stays in its digital realm within the game's parameters, I'm fine with it :D ;).
