Switching between households, is it worth it?

A lot of what SP makes happen around town is done by calculation and reported on by stories. Just because some inactive scientist increased their logic skill to Level 8 or whatever in order to get a promotion doesn't mean the mod necessarily pushed them to play chess or read a book about logic, etc. such as you would be able to see if they were on screen.
Pushes make sims actually do stuff that you can see so that all of them aren't spending the majority of their time hibernating in their houses, staring at the walls.
