You can also buy from Steam and use the codes in Origin, if you prefer. I did that when adding the last expansion and a couple stuff packs I didn't yet have. I'd also be open to playing through Steam but didn't want to rebuy everything right at that point in time.
When Steam has its sale, you can usually get the base game + one expansion (a starter pack) for something like $7, then the remaining expansions for $5 each. I think the stuff packs were $5, too.
Edited to add: Just don't go buy codes/downloads from unauthorized sellers on Ebay, etc. You can often find something less expensive, but EA deactivates those, and you're just out your money.
