World Adventures issues

So after my issues last time, I moved two of my sims out of the household and to a new world, Barnacle Bay. I played through nine days until the younger one became a YA, then I sent her and her new husband to Shang Simla for six days. My sim completed a number of the tombs but when it came time to send them home on day 6, they will not go home. I go to the phone, select ‘return home’, and then make sure both of them are highlighted to return. Then it goes to a loading screen and the loading bar slowly works its way to 99% and then stays there. For ages. Just testing it before, I left the computer running for an hour and it didn’t get any further than that.

I have been trying to find solutions. These are what I’ve tried:
- resetting my sims
- Resetting the whole town
- Doing a ‘save as’
- Doing a ‘copy town’ from the main menu
- Deleting as many cache files as I can, including from the world cache, to create space on my hard drive
- Pausing the game for 30mins (as one person suggested worked for her) after pressing ‘return home’

I cannot copy my sims household and go back to a game before they went to China because I don’t have that save (I forgot to keep it separate). I would have to download my sims family (all 100< of them) from the library and start the generation all over again. There’s also no guarantee that if my sims went to China again, that the same thing wouldn’t happen.

I’ve only done WA once before, a few years ago, and I don’t recall having any issues with my sims returning home, and I went to all three worlds during that save. Any suggestions that don’t involve undoing several weeks of gameplay?
  • The travel transitions in this game are delicate, to say the least. If not averse to using mods, and I do believe you were using NRaas mods at some point, the Traveler mod (working together with Overwatch and ErrorTrap) works very hard to help make them go through properly.

Without Traveler, the best you can do is try to relieve as much stress on the system and try again.
-- Only attempt return travel after a fresh loadup of the game save
-- Turn down all graphics settings to the bare minimum and switch off Advanced Rendering (the game will look awful this way, but you can set them back again after a successful arrival)
-- Play offline, meaning not logged in at the Launcher or in-game levels, switch off the in-game TS3 Store shopping experience, disallow the interactive hidden object startup game
-- Watch your actual RAM usage by way of Task Manager. If it's spiking over 3 GB (the actual danger zone for most players is over 3.5 GB), then the transition may not be successful; if it's over 3.5 or 3.6, it almost certainly won't be but the idea of the previous three tips is to reduce resource usage on that game session

And sometimes the "problem" is really with the homeworld attempting to load up, not the source world being left behind. But let's hope some of the above helps bring your sims home.
  • I tried the above suggestions, numbers 1, 2 and 3 in conjunction with each other but it didn’t work. So I downloaded Traveler (I already had the other two), and keeping the graphics down as well, it finally worked! My sims got home! Thank you ?.

There were a couple of weird things happen - one of my sims lost her coloured skin (she had already had her fairy/witch state changed with genie in China and thinking back in it, she may had lost her skin colour upon arrival in China - I would have to check the pics), and one of my sims who had remained home lost all her progress towards her kleptomaniac LTW ?. But other than that, everything seems to be working well.
  • The Traveler mod is really meant to be in place before having left home, but yes sometimes players can get it engaged while in a foreign world and attempting to return. Glad that it (mostly) worked. :)
