I tried installing the game, and it seemed to go well. Then I went to play the sims, and the initial sims launcher booted. 3/4 of the way through the update for it, it said that it could not install a file that was already there. I told it to ignore this, and it continued and appeared to be successful. However, once I tried to launch the sims again, the it would give the errormessage that thesims3launcher has stopped working.I attempted to uninstall it, but the uninstaller could not access a file (C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TSLHost.dll). I am logged in as an administrator, and the only account here. I cannot manually delete this file. I cannot move this file. I cannot modify this file. And when I go to security to change ownership of it to fix this, it says that "it cannot display information about the current owner" and it can not change ownership to me. So I'm stuck with this file and no way to remove it or successfully reinstall the game.

Are you installing the game from Origin download or DVD ? There was someone else with a similar issue but I can't remember if it was solved. Did you try to manually uninstall ? https://help.ea.com/article/manually-uninstalling-the-sims-3

I uninstalled it from the programs directory under the control panel, and it uninstalled successfully with the exception of that one file. I cannot delete it, manually or otherwise, as it keeps telling me an administrator is the only one that can access them (which I am). I cannot move it, I cannot edit permissions on it.

There's a program called unlocker (just google). That should unlock the file so you can delete it.

Man, even unlocker couldn't deal with it initially; had to remove the folder upon reboot. Worked though, thanks much! Gonna see if I can get the installer to work properly this time.

Same thing happened upon reinstalling the game. It installs correctly, then I go to update. The update downloads completely. 90% through installation, while on the previously mentioned file, I get this message:The following error occured on the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TSLHost.dllCannot create a file when that file already exists.(0xb7)I ignore it, as retrying is unsuccessful, and aborting and restarting the update results in the same thing. Are you installing the game from Origin download or DVD ?

There was someone else with a similar issue but I can't remember if it was solved.

Did you buy the disc version or did you buy the digital download version on Origin ?

And I assume it does show up on myGames in the client ?

Manual patching didn't work. Thanks for your help, but I'm done. EA and their horrid Origin software can do without my business in the future.

Sorry you had these problems but some antivirus has problems with the game. Also info about your computer (make and model), processor, amount of memory, video card would help. ty
