[Error Analysis] Sim can't return home

I just got my University game, and I am happy to say that everything was running surprisingly smoothly with only the occasional very minuscule glitch... that is until my sims painstakingly completed three terms and earned their degrees.
At first, my sims had the option to invite friends or family. They didn't have any from their home world, but the option came up to invite each other. Not thinking much of it, I allowed my University sims to invite each other to the graduation ceremony. I think this may have something to do with it because they are behaving like both graduates and guests, meaning one of the two of them never puts on their graduation robe when they enter the building to graduate.
The first time around, one of my sims made it in the door, and not the other. The second time around, both sims made it in, but only one got their degree. The third time around, everything went smoothly, but when it came time for the moving truck to bring them home, they stepped in the truck, but didn't make it home.
I get zoomed out to map view to check off the suggestion pop up, but my sims get out of the truck and never go home. I can't click them or anyone else to perform actions and I don't know what to do.
They also cannot interact with their phones. This has happened every time I try to go back to a previous save and go through graduation again.
I tried once to reset my sims, though I know it is very risky to do right now, and one disappeared; another turned into her roommate.
I tried to go into edit town, and it showed that I had no active sims. When I went back to game setup, it showed my dormitory including my sims and their roommates, so I placed them back in their original dorm. From there I was right back where I started out, bugged, stuck, and unable to move my sims, though they still had their degrees.
Next I tried running through the graduation ceremony for the thousandth time, and my sims couldn't click their phone to even dream of dropping out after they had gotten their degree. They basically become un-intractable after they go through the graduation ceremony. Well, that is one of my sims does. The other seems to be fully functional.
After that I tried reseting my sims before they were queued in for graduation. This made my sims unable to be queued in to go to graduation at all. However, I was able to send them to the ceremony manually. Only one of my sims wore their robes. Still only one of my sims is fully functional, always the same one.
Still, in the end, they always hop out of the moving truck and never go home. I can't return them to their home world either, because they are in a household with the other roommates. This is all extremely frustrating :evil:
