Sorry all,
I have been extremely busy irl. Lots of questions to catch up on not only in this thread but others as well. Can wait for some time off!
I have a ton of hair from RoseSims but it's only donation hair. It shows up fine in my games. If you're on a PC using Windows open up Explore, go to your Mods/Packages folder and post your path so I can see it. (i.e. Vista path - C:\Users\\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages) Also, sometimes you have to delete your cache/temp files to get it to show. Again, you can set up the new way if you have Ambitions and your game is fully patched.
If you are running Win7 on your PC, then you probably have Microsoft .NET Framework 4. I believe Win7 comes with that version. You can double-check to make sure you have it via the control panel. (i.e. Vista path - Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features)
If you are running Windows Vista or Win7, you should have it and you can check installed programs via the control panel. If you're running Windows XP you may or may not have it. You can download it from Microsoft as long as your OS is legitimate. Make sure your read everything!!! Read the overview, the system requirements, and all the instructions so you're sure get the correct software, service pack, etc... for your PC.
(.package) files and (.sims3pack) files ARE NOT the same thing.
(.sims3pack) files have always been placed in the your Sims 3 folder under Documents. They have always been in the Downloads folder. The Downloads folder contains all of your official Sims 3 custom content from the game, the store, the exchange. These are items that must be installed via the launcher.
Anything from 3PCC site usually ends in the (.package) file extension, although some creator will compress (.sims3pack) files as well. (.package) files need to be extracted using some type of compression software . They also can just be placed in the Packages subfolder once extracted. You do not need to install (.package) files via the launcher. Only (.sims3pack) files.
Thanks Smalp.
I hope that means you got it to work.
I still do mine the old way too and haven't switched it yet. I can do it either way but I'm just too lazy/busy irl to move it right now.
Glad you got it to work. Sometimes when you're frustrated you just have to walk away from it for a bit then come back to it.
You're so welcome. Hope you're enjoying your game. :P

how do i get the .net files and framework stuff? :S
I don't know how to advise since you haven't given me any info as to what OS version you're running. (i.e. XP, Vista, Win7) If you are running Windows, Microsoft .NET Frameworks is something needed to run the OS properly.
.NET Frameworks is something completely different than setting up a framework. All setting up a framework means is setting up your folder structure. You'll either set up your folders the new way or you'll set them up the old way. It's just the path to the folders and that's all it is.
im on windows 7

Is there a way to get the cc from the exchange to work with this new way of installing cc since they end in .sims3pack?

OMG, thank you so much Chloe and Bluntnote! "Chloe", blesss her sole, was helping me last night for an hour and a half with dl'ing CC this way. I was like a special ed kid-I know nothing about computers. Much forehead slapping of myself was occuring .
