Live-Mode Problems

So I just created a new world for my sims (Appaloosa Plains from Sims 3 Pets to be exact), after I moved my family into a house, none of my sims pictures would appear on the left side of my screen like they should.

 I could not switch sims using the Space bar either, and it would not show my Simoleons (Sims Currency), which did not allow me to buy anything from the store (even after trying the 'motherlode' cheat, it did not show any money).

 I already tried restarting; including deleting the whole town, and redoing everything but the family.

 What could be wrong and how can I fix it? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
