Mac uninstall, now game will not open at all and files are gone from The Sims 3 file

So, my Sims game was starting to freeze/crash frequently so I decided to uninstall it from my computer. I use Origin, so I simply deleted all files pertaining to The Sims 3, and then tried to re-install. I re-installed successfully, and tried to open through Origin. "Unknown error occurred" Alrighty then.... So I go into my Sims 3 folder and it is empty!!! I deleted everything including Origin, downloaded everything again, and I am stuck in the same spot. Please help!

Happy simming

    Hi

To uninstall TS3 from your Mac:

When you uninstall TS3 games on your Mac using the uninstaller, the game leaves behind stray files and isn't completely removed from your computer. These files may conflict with future installations. It is best to completely remove them. BluebellFlora's website provides a guide on how to do this:

    http://bluebellflora.com/the-sims-3-on-a-mac/how-to-do-a-clean-uninstall-and-reinstall-on-a-mac/

After cleanly uninstalling, install the base game and patch it up to date. If you cannot update via the Launcher, download and apply the latest cumulative manual patch (called the superpatch) for Mac.

Check that your game works properly. Then install any EPs and SPs that you own, in order of release date.

To download and install games through Origin:

First install the Origin client for Mac and make sure it is up-to-date. The latest version can be downloaded from here: http://www.dm.origin.com/mac/download

Additional advice on how to download games (thank you Tremayne for this tip):
When downloading from Origin, do NOT use the first install icon. Move your cursor over the game cover and click on the information (letter i) and then click on the install button from there.

For some reason, downloads from Origin frequently become corrupted. Using the i reduces the chance of your download being corrupted.

Thank you Caspin! I tried to follow the uninstall tutorial, but like I said, ALL of the files are gone. I still have the EA folder and The Sims 3 folder inside of that, but once I click into The Sims 3 folder, it is completely empty.

The folder you are describing - a folder called "The Sims 3" within a folder called "Electronic Arts" is within Documents section of your Mac, right? This is where the game stores files when you are playing (such as saves). These files are created when you actually play the game. You could in fact delete that folder and then when you start the game it would make a new one. So the fact that it is empty may not be the problem. However if you look in the Applications on your Mac instead you should see another folder called "The Sims 3" ( this one is on it's own, not inside another folder). This one in Applications contains the actual game installation. If you look in there you should see shortcut icons for the base game and any expansions you have installed. Does it look as you would expect? If not then your installation from Origin has failed.

Can you actually launch the game at all?
