New saves aren't showing up in game, but no backups and no .bad files in the save folder...

If I create a new game, all seems to go as usual until I either go back to the main menu or restart the game from the desktop.

Creating a new save while playing from an established save game (one that I have a save for which still apears) creates a save that is accessible.

In my saves folder all the saves which actually apear in game have backup saves, but (and I wasn't aware of how many there were) there are a fair number of saves which I'd not noticed go missing (I stopped playing this game for about 12 months due to the number of issues with it that there were no solutions for at the time) which seem to be there and these along with the new saves do have folders and the files required, but no backups and no .bad files/folders.

This seemed like a new issue as I've created a number of new games over the past 3 months without a problem, but with these old saves, I'm not sure what to make of it. I know I've only used the backup method for only one of my saves, so that can be ruled out as the cause of their missing backup and .bad files (well the backups at least).

Does this sound like a known issue and if so is there a solution please?

  • New saves are ok? The game has changed the way it saves games over time. I can only guess that old saves may not conform to the current way games are saved. Maybe a 'save as' may correct the problem. Save backup will be created the second time the save is used. When you create a game and save the save folder should be created w/o a backup image. The next time you re save that game the old folder is renamed with a .backup and a new folder is created when you save. If the game is not saving properly free space on the hard drive may be an issue or a user rights issue or maybe the antivirus may be interferring. A guess as the game is patched the game may not recognize old save formats.

Sorry, but it's quite a different problem. New saves aren't appearing, they're creating a save folder, no backup and no .bad files. Saving using an old save name works, but as I would like the option to start fresh that's not really a work around.

Sorry, should have covered the AV and space issues in my first reply. I've got 20Gigs free on both my HDDs and I've tried entirely disabling AV and the problem is persistent. Of course that does leave the possibility of a rights issue, but I'd rather not entertain the thought that I'll have to disable all the irritating, but effective security built into this annoying OS every time I want to play S3. That and disconnect from the internet. Besides anything else that would require a restart before then after playing and the game launch is slow enough as it is.

How many save games do you have in your saves folder ? There's only so many you can have.

Did you try moving a few old ones o a different (backup) place and see if the new ones then show up ?
