Im afraid that is no longer possible.
Origin will not install anymore with EA App. And uninstalling it would likely cause more trouble. They really need to fix their app
@sim3fan13132 This was working as of yesterday. Origin doesn't let you do anything with it, but the point is not to use it, it's to install Origin and let Origin auto-download your packs in the background while it's telling you to install the EA App. You don't need to uninstall the EA App either.
I've also merged your other posts into this thread since they're both about the same original issue.
I understand now.
I tested it, and it works!Still, I wish EA would at least fix their app so we wouldn't have to do this.
What did you do to make it work?
Unfortunately this didn’t work for me. I keep getting an error from origin that I am not connected to the internet even though I am.
extremely frustrating this is even an issue, EA needs to sort this out.@brittney0939 It's fine for Origin to think you're not connected to the internet. The question is whether your packs download in the background with Origin open. If this workaround isn't viable anymore, then unfortunately, there's nothing else you can do except wait for EA to fix the underlying issue.
I'm happy I found this thread, been trying to get a download working for a few hours while not tearing my hair off... At least I can stop trying now and just wait for EA to fix this -.-'
How did you re download origin? As far as I can tell it's not available for download anymore, at least on windows, therefore this fix won't work. Am I missing something?
@JesstoSims There's a download link for Origin in the post above yours.
- @puzzlezaddict You're so helpful :') thank you sm!! I will try this right away
How did you get it to work? Having the same problem!
@be33b32d65308712 The people who've managed to get their packs installed have been using Origin as a workaround. Even though Origin itself is no longer usable in Windows, it can still be installed and can still download content in the background even as it prompts the user to switch to the EA App. Here's the full description of how to use the workaround:
- Try to install your packs through the EA App, and do NOT uninstall the App or clear its cache afterwards
- Close the App and kill the EABackgroundService in the Task Manager
- Download the Origin installer from here (direct download link)
- Run the installer, and when you see a bunch of checkboxes for various options, make sure to check the one to allow Origin to keep itself and your games up to date
- Origin will tell you to use the EA App, but that's fine, just ignore that window and don't touch anything
- You should (might) see downloads in progress in the lower-left corner of the Origin window, and you can close Origin when they're done
If this doesn't help, then unfortunately, there's not much you can do. However, if different packs get stuck preparing each time you try to install, you could put aside the folders for the packs that did download properly. Each pack has its own folder inside the game's program files, and these are labeled by type and release order, e.g. Seasons is EP08 because it was the eighth expansion released. Then after uninstalling and reinstalling Sims 3, you could copy over the folders for the packs that were stuck preparing, at which point the EA App would verify their presence and finish the install process.
So if you're willing to experiment a bit, this might be a viable alternative, but again only if different packs are affected each time.
- @sim3fan13132 Please tell me how you fixed it! I'm running into the same problem and really need help. I've tried all the solutions I've read here so far and nothing's working. I just want to download and play my new expansion pack.
@rikasumire13 The only method that's been working is the Origin workaround mentioned earlier in this thread. Please see the post immediately before yours:

This managed to work after a couple of goes! Thank you 🙂
The Origin method finally worked for me. I had to uninstall and reinstall Origin first though. I just want anyone who is still having problem even with the Origin method to know that you DO NOT need to do any editing of files to get it download your games. In fact, that may prevent it from working, because it didn't work for me until I reinstalled. :D
спасибо большое, все сработало
