Serious error has occurred when loading my save

Hello everyone! I have been trying my best to save this play as it’s my legacy that i JUST started (only a founder and pregnant wife).

I’m playing in Sunset Valley. I have tried several different methods to fix this error. First, I restarted my computer, then I made sure the file folder wasn’t open. After that didn’t work I went to the Sims folder and unchecked the read only box and attempted to start the game. It did not start. I tried to download ccollombs unlocker but it doesn’t seem to work on my computer. I uninstalled the game then reinstalled and it still did not work. Then I uninstalled EA, restarted the computer, and reinstalled EA and Sims and it still did not work. After that, I factory reset the laptop (HP windows 11 home 64 bit OS). After that I was able to start the game I played a few times and now the error is happening again. I thought it was just the save file this time because prior to the factory reset , it was creating a new file that had “sim3.bad” along with the back up and main files and every new game I started couldn’t be saved at all so I assumed the computer needed to be reset. This time it isn’t creating the “.bad” file but now I can’t load the save or any worlds to create a new save. I get the same error message every time. I redid the steps to uncheck the read only box, but of no avail. I also saw a suggestion to change the backup folder by removing the “.backup” and updating the name and that did not resolve the issue either. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to save my legacy?

Thanks so much! I was able to get rid of One Drive which i felt probably was the problem and once I let the system create a new Electronic Arts folder the game did start successfully. Unfortunately, i think the old sims 3 folder just is not usable anymore because when I copied it into the new electronic arts folder and deleted the other one, the error was still happening so I will have to probably restart my legacy but that’s OK because I hadn’t got far. Thank you so much puzzle addict.

  • WoahJimmy  Rather than copying over the entire Sims 3 folder, let the game make another new one, and copy over only your save, inside the Saves folder.  If it doesn't load, it's probably toast, although you can try the backup save too.  Just remove the .backup extension so it ends in .sims3 , and it should be available to load at the Main Menu; rename it if necessary as well.
