Sims 3 - Characters/Pets Invisible and Unplayable

So I logged onto my game the other evening, and my family was completely messed up. I could only play as the two premade characters, and their child/pets were frozen, their icons were just green (no picture), and I could not interact with them.

But it's not just that family.

I thought maybe starting a new town would fix things. I made a brand new town, and started trying to use a different premade family. I adopted a pet from the shelter, and again, the pet was frozen, his icon was green (no picture), and I could not interact with them or play as them. I also couldn't give it up for adoption, because when the social worker came to pick up the pet, they froze as well. I had two different social workers on my lot frozen and was unable to interact with them.

I have no idea what to do. I tried to upload the backup file, but that didn't fix anything.

Any ideas?
