Strange duplicate files in Sims 3 folder

So i have discovered something in my Sims 3 folder that i find strange, every cache file and almost every document file has a duplicate now, but the duplicates are all named -DESKTOP-NMGDSKG, for example, two of my files reads: compositorCache-DESKTOP-NMGDSKG and the other reads DeviceConfig-DESKTOP-NMGDSKG

I have no idea if i can delete those files or they are harming my game in any way, i don't know when exactly they showed up either, i just noticed them while i was cleaning out my cache one day
Does anyone know why they exist and if it's safe to delete them?

@HummingBird_005  The files at the bottom are the game's crash logs, but they're not particularly useful and can be deleted.  You don't need to use a 4 GB patch: the game has been Large Address Aware since 2010 or so.

For the crashing, please move the entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you open the launcher, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Don't add anything to this folder yet; just see whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play for a bit.  Let me know either way.

If the game crashes while you're playing the new save, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

  • @puzzlezaddict Right now things have been working well when i added one of the Installed worlds i have, i'm gonna keep adding them one by one and see which one is crashing my game.
I do have a question though, is there anything else i need to add back from the old folder?
So far i have put back mods and simpacks + one world, i'm gonna put the saves in last when i have found the cause of the problem.
I also found a file called xcpt DESKTOP-NMGDSKG 20-07-21 02.03.28.mdmp, is that one safe to remove? It wasn't in the old folder

@HummingBird_005  The xcpt file is another crash dump, and it's just as useless as the others.  So feel free to trash it and any ones you see in the future.

What you add back from the old folder depends on what you want to keep.  Crinrict's guide to user files that I linked earlier explains what everything is, but you might not miss, or even use, certain content.  For example, the userpresets file contains any recolors you've saved in CAS, but if you don't save recolors, or you don't reuse ones you've saved, you won't need to transfer that file.  Similarly, if you never save sims in CAS itself, only saving the households once you're done creating them (or rather, the game saves the households), there will be nothing in SavedSims to transfer.

  • @puzzlezaddict Ah okay, then i'll just delete it.

Oh yea! I'll go check the guide to see if there is anything i need to add back. I don't save recolors or specific sims really, just the regular copy thing the game does when you create a household.

Thank you so much for the amazing help! You've definatly helped save my game, i was losing my marbles over this issue QwQ But now my game is working nicely, i went and downloaded errortrap and mastercontroller, i think it's helping my game a bit.
