There are two mod fixes for this now:
MC Command Center
No Relationship Culling
Passing this along since I saw a mod fix listed on a different bug post regarding dishes.
I can confirm MC Command Center gets rid of this problem completely.

Same as for the 'normal' culling: Please be cautious with these since there are reason EA put this in place. If you see any performance or other weirdnesses, turn of the options or remove the mods.
It happened again, at last. This time the game didn't delete ALL my friends, but just one random one (a playable sim from other family). The main aspects of my gameplay that maybe important:
1. I was playing rotational, changing many families, but I didn't play more than several (1-2) in-game hours with them. Just turn on, build something, switch.
2. My sim (that lost a friend) made many friends, about 25, about 20 of them are good friends and there is also one BFF.
3. I was playing for a many in-game days between the last meeting of the sims that lost their friendship and the moment I've noticed it's gone. Besides, my sim has the trait that prevents relationships from degrading.
I've also noticed that even if the relationships bar is empty, the game refuses to "forget" them if there are many statuses in those relationship (maybe this is related to the bug that prevents statuses from updating but just adds one after another). No matter how many time passed and how many families rotated. So in fact we can't get rid of unwanted relationships, but we lose the ones we need. Very annoying.
I noticed this as well, recently. I'm having the same troubles as @rostsit I play four different households in the game and the relationships get lost all the time. It makes it *really* hard to achieve the "Friend to the World" aspiration when I build up my friendships with one Sim and then they got lost because I play another household for awhile.
Even worse - I have romantic relationships showing up for Sims when I rotate back to that household - with Sims I've never even *met* before! What? What? How'd *that* happen?
