[CD] Pets with family spawn as strays if not currently living on a lot

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.105.332.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? a lot
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? 1. Create a fresh save. 2. Evict all households from Brindleton Bay that have pets 3. Visit a neighborhood in Brindleton Bay (all will spawn strays) 4. Look around for strays
What happens when the bug occurs? The game will spawn pets from the evicted families as strays, like for example Rosie from the Hecking family. This way you could accidentally adopt a pet that already has a family.
What do you expect to see? Pets who live with a family should not spawn as strays even if this family currently does not live on a lot.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

I realize this is a bug that will probably never get fixed, although I'd also say that it will occur more often nowadays with the addition of Neighborhood Stories. And it's quite sad if you want to play with strays.

I made a mod to fix it years ago, but never published it until just now. And apparently there isn't a bug report yet.

If anyone is interested in the mod: it's part of my Better Pet Hangouts mod on CurseForge (I'm also flauschtrud over there).

  • Same. Agree that it will probably never be fixed.

    Thanks @flauschtrud  for the heads up about your mod. I mostly just go into the unplayed Household Management panel and give all pets last names. Then I know who they belong to.

  • I think they way they did is the best way to handle strays Since trying to fix it could be next to impossible without breaking the premade strays. Mayor Whiskers is visible in managed worlds and all game created strays rely on not in world and trying to fix it would take break the game even more. Plus I like it the way it is. You can create your own stray pets using this and console players also have this feature and no need to rely on mods. So it has it's advantages and disadvantages. Win win. Edit wouldn't let me say pros and the other word got censored.

    @Creeper545548

    My mod doesn't break the premade strays. The only difference is how they are filtered from the household lists. The vanilla game looks for pets that are not living on a lot and my mod adds the condition that they mustn't have a human in their household (which in my opinion is a better definition of "stray"). So Mayor Whiskers will still appear as a stray and you could still create a custom stray household without humans.
