Yeah this keeps happening to us as well. Now, I could see a couple ways to approach this, simple or complex. One workaround as players could be to build/buy activate on other lots via cheats and set up some ceilings. Another could be to have a patch that weather checks before the event triggers for geek con.
One other thing that I think could be fun for us players would be to add an option to upgrade devices to be Waterproof. Looking at electronics these days, more of our things are becoming impervious to water. So why not add that to the game for a Sim with high enough Handiness? Then use that newly added ability to premade items such as those in the city. Just an entertaining idea!
Suppose on the other side of the coin this could make it seem a little ridiculous to hold a festival during bad weather and heighten the chances of getting electrocuted.
Yep, extremely annoying. This mod fixes that for now, if EA doesn't patch it: MTS: Electronics Work In the Rain!

This issue has not been fixed and is still occurring. i just sent my Sim who to geekcon and it was raining and all of the computers were broken. She has handiness skills and I thought I could repair the computers myself but there is no option to repair. I tried going in to build mode and buying new computers but I am not able to do that either. It is amazing that two years later the same bug is still happening.
@jewelisgreat It still rains. Just less often. Computers break in the rain, that's by design.
