Re: [FIXED] Active Sims interrupt current interaction to do something else

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.63.134.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Eco Lifestyle, Island Living, Get Famous, Seasons, Cats & Dogs, City Living, Get To Work, Parenthood, Dine Out, Laundry Day, Cool Kitchen Stuff, and the free Holiday pack.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Normal gameplay, but it happens more often when there's some sort of entertainment nearby.
What happens when the bug occurs? I will have my sim cook herself dinner (or in some cases writing on the computer), only for her to stop midway through to do something else. Example, sim will stop writing on computer/cooking a meal unprompted without the progress bar completing to watch tv, read a book, garden, or even get a quick meal out of the fridge. This also happens when she's grilling (happens most often with Forager's Stew), but in this instance I am completely unable to resume cooking, and I have to throw it away.
What do you expect to see? Sims to be able to complete the tasks queued for them without interruption.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. Most of the issues I've noticed within the last two patches, I believe. I don't know the exact patch numbers, but before a week or so ago it didn't happen. The grilling one specifically happened with the addition of Eco Lifestyle.

In the case of the writing on the computer, the fix seemed to be to move the book pile from the computer desk into another room, but the sim seems to want to look even further away for entertainment while cooking, like going into the next room to watch tv, or going upstairs to garden.  While grilling the Forager's Stew, the sim will stop out of nowhere and when you click back onto the grill, they do the motion of "I can't get there", even if I move it around.  In this case, the sim doesn't seem to have anything else to do, they just stop.

I haven't had any mods installed since the patch before the ladders were added I believe, because I didn't know what kind of interactions it would have.  The only mod I had in there before that was the most updated MCCC available.

@NSxx99 Same. It's getting extremely annoying. A sim will be hungry, go to the fridge, get something and put it right down and forget about it. Sometimes even on the floor. I tell them to eat it, they pick it up, place it on the table, and forget about it. I tell them to sit down, then I tell them to eat it, they start eating, then stop and forget about it.

I have to tell them at least 4-5 times before they finish it. It happens with absolutely everything. They'll leave things on the stove, they'll stop in the middle of showering before they finish, teens and children stop doing homework before its finished, they'll just get up while sleeping for no reason at all...

The game is starting to become completely unplayable.
  • Yes! It's driving me crazy, the problem is amplified for roommates who keep leaving unfinished food all over the place. This needs to be fixed ASAP!

  • This is happening to me too. So I built my sim a container house down on the Dockside lot and she refuses to prepare or cook food inside the container just point blank refuses to use fridge the stove or the kitchen counters. After trying to fix the problem I found that it didnt matter if I had the stove/fridge/counter up against a blank wall or in the middle of the container she just refuses to even begin using these items (does the cant do it wave action). Heres the interesting thing, when I put the stove/fridge/counter objects outside she will start to use them and mid way through just stops and stands there like Ive reset her. If I try and get her to resume she refuses to resume and I have to get her to clean it up. What I found interesting was there seems to be a glitch with the kitchen counters too if I get her to make a garden salad when the counter is outside she wont make the salad at the front (drawers) side of the counter she walks round to the back of the counter to start the process. There are other problems Ive been having too like you my sims seems really scatty she wont complete tasks I have to instruct her multiple times to get her to do anything such as having a shower, reading a book and another weird glitch is the empty bicycles that keep whizzing past my lot with noone riding them. I also have the problem of recycled foraged items not making it into my inventory and my influence points disappearing without explanation I will work my sims butt off influencing sims building up points only to lose them all mid conversation with no idea why. My last complaint is the container doors I cringe everytime my Sims walks in and out of the container the doors open inwards. Container doors do not open inwards! it insults me that you would not put proper action to those doors. The food issue is the most pressing issue that needs fixing for an interim Ive found a work round which is so contradictory to the goals of the pack by placing a cauldron on the lot so it seems my sim is happy to cook a vat of mac and cheese with a couple of prompts but at least she completes it. Not really eco having a cauldron chugging out smoke 24/7 but at least she wont die of starvation.

@helenbeeee YES!! The empty bikes! I saw that and thought it was just some odd momentary glitch because I was on fast speed - but nope...I've seen them a few times now!!

@helenbeeee Just a quick update I restarted my computer as well as the game and then I made myself read all the information all the prompts and have worked out that a lot of the issues were cause by me not knowing how to play this pack its a little more complicated than previous ones and things are connected at a deeper level meaning the influence of traits and actions can have a much deeper reach. So my suggestion is that you research and try things out. One of the major problems was choosing all the new traits together where in actual fact doing that causes some conflict. I am really enjoying the pack and loving playing sims at the moment this is a good pack there are areas that can be improved but its got a lot potential for some excellent gameplay. We did ask for more challenges in the game and I think this pack delivers on that. PS: thankfully the empty bikes have stopped whizzing around the town and my sim cooks in her container now. 🙂)

@NSxx99I've been having a similar issue today, I moved my sim to uni and every time i have her write her term paper on the computer she will for a little bit and then stop and go and get a quick meal. She will pull out clay while using the bathroom. She will go and practice writing even though I didn't tell her to... all this is happening will free will turned off. Became unplayable for me today. This is just one instance of bugs i've run into since installing eco. There are several causing my game to be unplayable.

I have also noticed that disabling free will has no effect at all. I’ve been in every hood and turned off every NAP and turned off NCP voting but no fix for the dropping directed interactions. Also I’ve never hated clay so much in my life.

  • @rebeccah101 Yeah someone mentioned that the N.A.P.-related activities (like the things that are overriding player-queued tasks) are coded in a way that makes them happen regardless of free will settings.

I really wish that we could choose whether or not to have our Sim participate in a N.A.P. If the community votes for the creative policy, I'd prefer that my tech-focused Sim wasn't forced to do creative activities. Like I'd like to choose to forego N.A.P. perks by not participating.

I’ve been having the exact same problem as these! I can deal with my sims stoping doing mundane things like learning skills/doing homework BUT it becomes so infuriating when I’m trying to boost their needs i.e. eating! They don’t finish cooking, but when they do, they never finish eating their food! They just decide to go off and ‘stretch’ or give someone ‘fake bad news’. It makes the game not even worth playing! Has anyone come by a fix yet?

I'm having the same issue as well. It was related to my N.A.P, using cheats I got rid of them but the behavior is still there. It's so frustrating, my sim will stop what I tell them to do to bake a cake or brew herbal remedy or practice programming or shake a rubric cube. I have to remove all grills and ovens, lock the computers and keep deleting the cubes from their inventory. I don't understand why this is happening and I can't fix it.

  • That's exactly how my game is: unplayable. My sims will stop what I direct them to do in order to complete a chain of actions: push ups, stretch, practice making drinks, and START to make a white cake, but never finish it. Every single sim teen+ does this and it is INCREDIBLY frustrating. Anyone have any ideas on what we can do????

@hannahnotmontanaThe only thing I can think of is turn off NAP voting. Remove all the active naps using cheats and hope for the best. Hopefully with no NAPs active Sims won't be able to do the actions.

well that sure didn't work for me. I hope I didn't risk gaining my trophies for nothing lol 😮😥🤔😟

  • YO,I don't even reply on here. I did it one time, now I am doing it again. EA I need yall to fix this bug asap because I am not, I repeat, NOT STARTING OVER. Look, I reallllyyy enjoy playing sims but I can't take anymore with random push-ups and I am ready to hurt my sims *laughing inside*  It's unplayable you gotta be freaking kidding me!

    What @clairb718 said lol

I started having this issue a couple of weeks ago with a household. Moved them from Oasis Spring to San Myshuno and they brought all of their issues with them even after I had disabled NAPs and cheat removed them from both neighborhoods. I had to stop playing that family altogether.

Started playing a new household in the same save in Strangerville, cheat repealed their NAPs and no issue until one of them moved to Brightchester for university (which was a buggy mess, but unrelated) and then to San Myshuno and it seems San Myshuno is still stuck in the NAPs even though I've cheat repealed them and they are still disabled. I can't stop autonomous behaviors with MCCC and it's the same hell both with and without mods.

A random NPC waiter in Brindleton Bay was infected with the compulsive give fake bad news bug too and wouldn't stop trying to ruin my sim's meal. Sigh.

This bug is sadly completely ruining my gaming experience on my current save. I'd try another save, but it would be super annoying since I've been working hard on this save after EL to get the neighbourhood eco footprints as I want them to be. Really, really wish this issue will be fixed soon.

I have a similar issue on Xbox One with my sim on campus currently and I can tell him to do something and he'll stop halfway through and go off to dance, play a computer, plays with clay,  or the digi pad (which had made him miss class) all of which when I am trying to get him to do basically ANY actions on campus. I've even restarted my Xbox fully.
