Re: [FIXED] Hospital Workers do nothing when giving birth

I've just recently started having this problem as well. My sim will go to the hospital and the doctor will be standing outside but not come in. Or if the doctor does come in, they just chat with my sim instead of taking her back to the delivery room. If there is a receptionist, I have to check in twice but sometimes there is not a receptionist either and I can't do anything. When I save and go to manage worlds, and then come back, it works and my sim can have her baby. The most recent time this happened, the doctor just stood and chatted until my sim hit 0 on the pregnancy timer, I managed worlds and then came back, and my sim immediately went back to the delivery room where she was helped by a completely different doctor.

  • I've had problems for ages with this, but it has been working much better recently. It might have been fixed by a patch, or it might have been...

I had Geoffrey Landgraab quit his job as a Secret Agent and go into the Medical career. (He's a doctor in previous versions of the Sims.) I haven't had any problems with it since Dr. Landgraab started delivering the babies. (He's still an Intern, too.) Maybe it's one of those hidden things in the game that Geoffrey Landgraab is supposed to be in that career, kind of like Skip Broke drowning if you create him or Sophie Miguel kicking trashcans if you create her.

  • @crinrict Oh my I hadn't checked on this thread in quite a while. I have not changed anything about the hospital. I had an especially frustrating night where the pregnant mother was in the hospital for over 14 sim hours before a doctor finally showed up to give birth to her child. The same night I also noticed the excessive TV watching glitch for the first time so after I logged off I repaired the game. I have not had so severe an incident after that. Soon after, one of my viewers told me that the mother won't go back to the room until the "In Labor" moodlet gets down to 2 hours. Since then I've been keeping track, and it's like clockwork, giving birth once the moodlet hits 2 hours. Not sure why that's the case, since the moodlet lasts 4 hours, and most players (like me) are likely to select to go to the hospital immediately upon receiving the notice that their sim has gone into labor. By design, or another related bug?

This is the steps to take to have birth at the Hospital.

    1. When Sim goes to hospital The Doctor and Staff are outside waiting for you, they are waiting for something.  Sometimes it happens before they go to the hospital so they get sent right away, sometimes it happens after.

    2. Sim may not be ready to give birth yet, wait for the bladder to drop really fast,  Once it gets in the Red and you go to relieve your bladder, A popup will say, "What is that my water broke baby is on the way after that your sim should automatically walk to the surgery table and the doctor and nurse will panicky rush in to give birth.  In the Original Hospital if you are sent to the surgery room at the end of the hall and there is a nurse at both tables congratulations you are having identical twins and both babies will spawn at each table.  Another way to tell is if the names are on the same dialog box they are identical twins, if not they are non identical twins, but still twins.

    3. Keep in mind the Check in is only for sick patience and can confuse the game if you check in.  The game uses the bladder drop and relieve to simulate water breaking which starts the process, so if you go to the hospital too early in the labor process you might have to wait a while to have the baby.

@ravencoal That's an interesting observation. May account why it happens to some people and why I usually can't duplicate it cause I just wait it out until they go.

Can't say if it's by design or not but would be interesting to check on further.
  • @Sid1701d9 Thank you for this detailed explanation. In addition to following these steps, I also found that the surgery table must be the original blue color. I do not have mods or cc so I am not certain whether that may play a factor as well. However, I did test on the original hospital and an edited version and both worked. Although they fixed the surgery table color issue for the GTW doctor career, it does not seem to have been fixed when the playable sim is having the baby. After using your step-by-step guide and changing the surgery table color, it worked accordingly. Thank you

Yep, defo happened to me yesterday and I was very surprised because it'd been fine for a looooong time and I was doing the 100 baby challenge so you can imagine the amount of times I took my sim to the hospital!

So what changed? I went back to my old save after completing the challenge, pretty excited not to play with babies for a while! I also obviously reintroduced my mods folder and made sure ALL my mods were up to date and compatible and all that.

After a while I actually started missing playing with tods (how you just forget the struggle ahah !!) so I got my sim pregnant and took her to the hospital when it was time. First off, the only worker on lot was a ghost assistant... can we do something about that too while we're at it? I actually hate how npc and townie ghosts just carry on with their lives as if they never died!! Just random ghosts everywhere as bartenders and nurses and whatnot... Come on! Anyway, I'm digressing... So, no employee on lot at first except the ghost at the desk, then some nurse showed up by the sidewalk and stayed there whole time, not even pretending to do something like when you play the active doctor career you know (doing tests, checking in patients, ANYTHING).

So, usually my sim shows up and is checked in within a few minutes, taken to the labour table and that's that, I don't need to do anything, not even check her in manually... But not this time around, so I tried to check her in myself... Nothing happens, and no doctor on lot to help her give birth either. I don't know what the problem is, I'm wondering if it could be related to spawning doctors? It would make sense that she can't give birth if there's no one on lot to help her out...

So i've been looking at some of the comments and I don't know whether the table is in the original colour or what. I'm using Plumbella's wonderful save as she renovated every lot. The hospital is defo renovated, I don't know about the tables and their colours though honestly.. But it does feel important to point out that I was also playing with a renovated save for my 100 baby challenge, but a different save (I'm not too sure I started the challenge a long time ago but I think lilsimsie), and possibly with the hospital lot unchanged.

I have had this issue since I bought the game last month. No changes to the hospital - in fact I have only ever been to the hospital to give birth because I haven't played a doctor yet. No mods. No cheats other than attempting to fix this issue. I've had two different Sims try to give birth at the hospital. The first time I wasn't sure what was supposed to happen, so I tried to check in about 6 times, then put it in fast forward because I thought I just had to wait. It zoomed through over a day, then sent my Sim to work (as a scientist). She worked through the day, then she went home and gave birth there. Now I'm having the same issue with a different Sim. Save file is here:

After reading the other comments I think I should add that I did not receive the alert that their water broke for either Sim - and my Sim has the "steel bladder" reward. The first Sim may have too (she does now, I'm just not sure if she did for her first pregnancy). Could that be the issue?

We've reproduced the issue of changing the color of the surgery table causing problems, but if anyone is having problems where they didn't change the surgery table I would really appreciate your save file, thank you so much!

It's still an issue after the last patch and it was hard to find the answer. Please fix this issue in the next patch. ❤️

@Loreafun Does it happen for you on a recolored table or the standard one ?

If it's a standard one, please send your Save to SimGuruNick as per instructions so they can duplicate and fix the issue.

The issue is with all the get to work items like this, and the interrogation table. If you recolour it to another swatch it does not work.

  • I have no mods or cc’s and my sim waited 10 hours and nothing. She went back home to give birth 😫
