Re: [ARCHIVED] Plants look dead while being in season/inside and functional

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.108.349.1020 DX9
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? I have all of them. No mods or cc.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I am not sure
What happens when the bug occurs? I got my Sim a new house from the gallery and added a greenhouse. When I put all the lush plants in the greenhouse they all looked very dry or dead.
What do you expect to see? Healthy plants. They have never been outside.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I repaired the game and checked my graphics card and computer are up to date.
They still produce but look awful.

  • If that is in an ENCLOSED space more than likely you have an error in your building that leaves a space open. One single missing roof piece or wall panel will allow indoor growing to die. I have fiddled with that dead plant look for years and if Ihave a dead plant INSIDE a house I find a missing piece to the construction in every case. There are also "tricks" to building where you have a section of house that is not attached directly to the main part of the house and have "moved" a wall into place to make the house look complete using Tool or antoher edit. Best way to find out is build a small building that is nothing more than four walls and a roof and put the plant inside it and see what happens to the plant when you move it in there, or plant another one. I have houses with a sub basement, a basement beneath a basement beneath a basement (3 levels underground) with no windows and no lights and the plants grow and provide harvest. If youhave a room on the ground floor (level 1) and build a second floor above and remove the floor so you now have a second level opening, in a "Great Room" configuration, double story Great Room floor plan, removing the floor on second floor (level 2) means you now have a room (level 1) with no ceiling and the plants on level 1 will die. The indoor plants MUST have a complete sealed area, not open to level (above or below it) I have downloaded homes and buildings from the "library" that have flaws in roofs, ceilings, etc, that actually appear to be complete but still allow snow to come in or rain. I end up finding the error missing piece and fixing that and have no problems. Arches are some what tricky as well. Arch windows tend to be safe, Arch door ways are sometimes a problem if they don't have a door that closes.

I checked the roof again and it looks fine to me. And all the walls are enclosed. I tried to attached 2 photos but it says they are too large and I don’t know how to make them smaller. I wanted to see if you saw something missed. If you know how to make the photo files smaller let me know.

  • Requires software, like paint. Open the photo and use edit to resize it. edit will have a "resize" option. That would be a basic "comes with windows" fix.  Resave it as a new file. Did you try to put the plant into a little tiny room by itself? That is -> four walls, a floor and a ceiling/roof?

Thank you for your answer. Actually I went back a looked at the roof for the 5th or 6th time and you were right! I had two roofs on the greenhouse and while they looked connected they weren’t. Thank you!😊
