A modest idea for a new Sims series.

This is rather an "out there" suggestion for The Sims team, and it's no doubt wildly unfeasible, but I'd like the Sims to develop an alternative Sims game that's a cousin to the current Sims game called Sims 4: Into the Dark or something like that where they would focus almost exclusively on the supernatural and occult Sims.

It would still be the same dollhouse life simulation as the Sims, but with the main focus being on arcane Sims. Take the Sims 3 Supernatural as a starting point with six or so life states - Human, Vampires, Spellcasters, Werewolves, Ghosts and Fairies - all living together in a quasi haunted, Halloween-inspired world. Human Sims would then have the choice to embrace the freaky and weird, become a part of it or fight against it. Subsequent packs could introduce new life states, new magic spells and items, pets, and new magically-infused, or light horror-infused by-way-of-the-Sims experiences, each with loads of the new CAS and Build/Buy assets we're used to getting.

Expansion, Game and Stuff packs practically write themselves. An Arabian Nights EP could bring us to the Middle East where we meet djinns, flying carpets, magic lamps. An Egyptian inspired EP could bring back tomb exploration and mummies. A Search of Atlantis EP could offer up merfolk, sirens and Creature From the Black Lagoon style Sims as well as underwater exploration and living. An Ancient Greece inspired pack could give us demigod powers, new Nymphs (PlantSims) and Satyrs life states, Minotaur encounters, Gorgons, you name it. A Cryptids pack brings back Big Foot, and other legendary creatures. Fairytale pack could have you investigate gingerbread house-building witches, tricky gnomes, hard-working dwarves. Alien encounters could bring us, you guessed it, Aliens and a chance to visit Sixam properly ... or maybe their evil galactic enemies!

Some of your Sims would still need to work, so jobs would be the same, but some new ones could be created, like Magical Creatures veterinarian, Apothecary technician, monster hunter, etc.

By making it its own series, a dedicated team could go hog wild and create some really interesting new game play and features with which we could craft our characters and their stories, but also allow themselves the room to expand on past occults with new magic powers, vampire lore, werewolf abilities, etc. You could also potentially build the regular Sims game and this game on the same engine so if players wanted to mix and match packs between the two games they could, or conversely, if some Simmers wanted pure normalcy, they could have it, no toggles necessary.

I know it's the pipe dream of all pipe dreams, and elements of it are no doubt unfeasible at this point in time. But it's an idea that's been nagging at me for a while now, and hey, if I don't at least try planting the seed it'll never get the chance to grow into anything at all.

    With all these various Lifesims currently in development, I've been thinking about this concept a lot lately. I love it!

    In fact, I'd like several "smaller" themed basegames built on the same engine. All basic functions would work the same, but one of them could indeed be a lifesim for Occult players, another SciFi themed with spacetravel related worlds/ planets, and another one for historical gameplay. Essentially it would be like having expansion basegames with unique gameplay systems, rather than expansion packs only. The difference is that the player doesn't have to deal with all the unwanted stuff. The mix & match element is an important one so that no one needs to feel left out. If I want to play occults in space, I should be able to do so without any issues. A world creator tool and being able to export / import gameplay data would make this game highly customizable, but naturally also more complex.

    Like other simmers out there, I currently simulate this concept by having generated a selection of individual saves based on some of my favourite themes / genres:

    • Supernatural Horror;
    • Action Adventure;
    • Medieval Fantasy;
    • Star Battles (which is a mix of Star Wars and generic SciFi );
    • Post Apocalypse;
    • Victorian Steam / Cattle Punk;
    • And very soon a save for a good old fashioned hot 'n dusty Western!

    For each save I only use a small selection of worlds and almost never the modern ones, but what would be ideal for me is for example to be able to fire up your "Into The Dark" occult basegame and not having to deal with all the unwanted modern nonsense, such as smart phones, umbrellas and some of these dreadful townies IF I didn't want these things and I 100% do not want these things. :D

    I think the most challenging part in game development like this would be making it as user friendly as possible.
