- I see a lot of people being glad about losing the open world (and along with it, exploration, collecting, horses, building and placing your own lots for custom neighborhoods, beautiful scenic maps, and a realistic gameworld feel) because of rabbit holes and the possibility of going into restaurants. What I find puzzling is where are they going to put all of these brand new walk-in venues, when you consider how hopelessly small the actual worlds are now going to be; and with the lots actually being significantly smaller, it's not like you're going to build two venues in one lot (tastefully) like you could do with Sims 3. I also fear a return of the 'virtual Sim' who "appears" but actually has no home lot.
- phyllisp160New SpectatorI was never that impressed with TS3 open world and rabbit holes. Looking forward to seeing exactly how things work in TS4.
- I certainly don't mind - I really disliked the rabbit holes and the open world was a good idea but my computer didn't agree :# I can't wait to play it personally, it looks like a much richer game and everything I've been waiting for from The Sims. Can't wait! People are definitely judging it; I think when everyone gets a chance to play it and sees everything you can do with it they'll really like it :)
- EeekeySeasoned RookieIf it makes the game run more smoothly then that can only be a good thing.
- I like that it's gone, it caused too many issues and this gives more opportunity for "open for business" style gameplay with its prettier small neighbourhoods. It was honestly one of the first things that made me want to pre-order. The only thing that stopped me pre-ordering is that I'm worried about whether I'll play a sims game for more than 2 hours when it has no toddlers.

That's what new worlds are for. One of the things I loved about TS2 was that you didn't have to build new lot types in your home neighborhood because you could just visit the Restaurants in Downtown and return home without needing to edit town. I absolutely hated the fact that you could not do that in TS3. In that game, the only way you could get go scuba diving was if your sim lived in Isla Pardisio. Tough luck for Sims living in Bridgeport, Sunset Valley, Twinbrook etc. TS4 is going to be like TS2 in that regard. There will be no need to worry about where the new lot types are going to go in your save, because you'll just be able to visit the world that contains the lot and you'll be able to build the lots yourself. - > @shenice93
I completely agree. Another thing I didn't like about the open world is the fact that we were given these big worlds, but with hardly anyone in them.. In the Sims 4 gameplay trailer, we see at a lot there are Sims everywhere, and it felt like that in Sims 2 as well, but in Sims 3 when I wanted to go to the park, if felt like a ghost town, my Sim would be there.. and perhaps an old man reading a book or someone fishing but it hardly felt like the whole world had a population over 20 Sims. - I think it would be super cool to be able to walk into restaurants and such. Like the stuff we got from the store such as the bakery and the bistro were great. I would have liked to see that sort of stuff in sims 4 but improved but instead we don't even get rabbit holes! I would much prefer rabbit holes than sims walking off screen. Sims 1 and Sims 2 restaurants and such sound really interesting. I didn't really play much of sims 2 since i had to uninstall the ultimate collection as my computer isn't good enough to handle both sims 3 and sims 2 installed but the open work and community places sounds really good. I am really disappointed that sims just walk off screen to work now :/

I agree, although I'd rather there be lots built into the world rather then rabbit holes, I'd much rather have a rabbit hole then have the Sim just walk off screen, how is that considered a 'good' gameplay experience? Yay I get to watch an empty house while my Sim is off screen.. Waiting is fun! :( - @Cinematograph and also there's not even an open world so it's not like we can go to the park and watch other random sims do random stuff unless the game will let us move about that far from our home lot.
Which would be pretty weird since we can see the park but not order our sims to go to it with an "open" world :/ I dunno how it will all work out, i don't want to sit and watch a boring screen. I would much prefer explore the world on my own, go to some nice places like a waterfall or something and take pics or whatever or just watch other sims do what they do in public areas
