I did this for a bit with my current sim family. Added a holiday to the calendar marked as "Anniversary" Then it got weird when their kid became a teenager, because they were no longer ignoring the dating and romantic traditions, so I pulled it rather than have her stuck with an awful holiday or have to have a romantic interest to do things with on her parent's anniversary.
So, in my experience, it's not worth the trouble.
(Okay, and IRL our anniversary is usually dinner and a movie, and that's about it.)
Well for me, I was thinking more along the lines of like a birthday type thing. Where you choose the couple who are celebrating and everyone congratulates them and gives them gifts and such.
I could see that, but based on the way the game handles Birthdays, I wouldn't want it to be "required" that I (as the player) celebrate the couple's day else they get a sad "ignored anniversary" moodlet. Especially if my timing is off and I forget to set up whatever I need to set up before the Sad Moodlet is activated.
Some couples it's a big deal, other couples not so much, and still others may be on their way to divorce and celebrating would be awkward. I want to pick those, rather than have the game dictate it to me.
